Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Russell.
Hi Caitlin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a freelance artist for much of my life, until I discovered my passion for photography. I initially picked up a camera to create my own reference material for paintings and from there, I fell in love. My background has given me a unique perspective when it comes to photography and as a photographer, I enjoy capturing life as we live it… the smiles… the tears… the moments that often go unnoticed… and I strive to photograph the beauty that I see for each of my wonderful clients to cherish for themselves. I’ve always believed that art is a language that everyone inherently understands, and photography is my way of speaking to the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think any time we find something that we’re passionate for and make the choice to pursue professionally, there are always obstacles to overcome. For myself, it was -and continues to be- being brave. There’s something vulnerable about letting the world see you. There are days where I’m able to be a wallflower and can hide behind the comfort of a camera, and there are also days where I must be a leader, a touchstone, a friend, and an inspiration -sometimes to those I’ve only just met. Being brave before strangers and departing as friends has been the greatest struggle that I’ve encountered… but also the greatest blessing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I began my journey into photography as an equestrian and I still find peace among horses. Equine photography is one of my favorite genres. I love capturing their God given beauty and the bonds that they build with their people. Because of my background, I feel as though I can understand. Simple things, like the touch of a muzzle, the tangle of a mane, or the scent of alfalfa on their breath can stir a love that we share with our horses. I enjoy bringing those moments into my photography and gifting my clients with that memory forever. While horses are a lifelong love of mine, I also find that other genres of photography warm my heart and bring so much joy to those around me. There is nothing quite so special as witnessing a bride and groom’s first look at each other before they take their vows, or the celebration of a new life being brought into this world. I’ve learned that life is so precious- all of life- and I’ve discovered a passion for capturing it.
