Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Steidle.
Hi Trey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m the proud parent of two dogs, Smush, the English bulldog, and Shark, the standard poodle. These two dogs couldn’t be more different from each other while weighing the same. I needed some help finding the right food for each of them. I went down a deep rabbit hole learning everything I could about dog food. I became fascinated with fresh food alternatives to kibble. While studying at The Wharton School, I developed a thesis about customizing fresh food for dogs. Breed Science was created to help dogs live longer, and we achieve that by optimizing each dog’s nutrition.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not been a smooth road. Breed Science was born during the pandemic, so we dealt with all the headaches in the early days. We love veterinarians, and we decided to market and sell our food only through veterinarians. Finding success with veterinarians has been challenging because their job is hard, and they only spend a little time talking to pet parents about nutrition. We believe food is medicine, and we urge our vets to have more discussions about how to do nutrition work for your dog’s health, not against it.
We’ve been impressed with Breed Science, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
When we help a dog turn its life around with a diet change, there is no greater feeling in the world. I’ve seen skinny dogs finally put on the weight they need; overweight dogs cut down to the size they should be, freeing them from the burden of obesity and finally enabling them to run down the street and jump up on the bed. When a dog gets to their healthy weight, that puppy energy is restored, and parents tell me the old dog they once knew has returned. Nothing beats that feeling. That is what I call success.
