Meet Nemesia Sorcar of Evolutionary Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nemesia Sorcar.

Hi Nemesia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have known since I was a small child that I wanted to help improve people’s lives, as well as my own life. Since I was a teenager I have been interested in different ways to improve my life through various lifestyle adjustments such as exercise, Yoga, and meditation, I saw this as a series of “experiments” to figure out how to make my life as enjoyable as possible. In college, I received a bachelor’s degree in Wellness and Alternative Medicine where I was introduced to various alternative medicine modalities such as herbalism, nutrition, Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic medicine and body work just to name a few.

In my early 20’s after college, I lived and volunteered as a gardener at a Yogic retreat center, and became immersed in a lifestyle of wellness and nourishment. I realized then that changing my lifestyle, living amongst a healthy community, eating nurturing food, doing yoga every day, and being outside and living more in tune with nature had a profound effect on my overall feeling of well-being. I realized that I was the happiest and most vibrant I had ever been and felt like I was for the first time, in my full personal power.

My first introduction to Chinese Medicine was through taking a college elective course on internal Daoist cultivational practices that included the Microcosmic orbit, the Inner Smile Meditation and the Six healing Sounds. It was through these specific visualization and Qi-cultivating exercises that I first experienced the visceral sensation of what it feels like to feel Qi. After doing these practices I would notice the sensation of a warm, tingling, excitable feeling within my body, this was my first introduction to the invisible, life force that permeates and animates all beings. I would leave the class with my body surging with Vitality, I knew at this point that I wanted to learn more about how to develop my own energy resources. I received my first Acupuncture treatment a few months later, and still remember the feeling after the treatment like I was floating out of the clinic, and a feeling of such deep peace and grounded joy.

I chose to become an Acupuncturist because I know through experience that Chinese Medicine works. Chinese Medicine is a complete system of Medicine, it encompasses nutrition, herbalism, bodywork, lifestyle advice, and acknowledges the mind body and spirit. Not to mention, Chinese medicine has withstood the test of time, it is over 3000 years old and is still utilized currently in Hospitals in China and other parts of the world, and it is becoming more acknowledged by Allopathic Medicine.

While I was in my first year of Acupuncture school I had a health crisis happen where I contracted Lyme disease and was bed ridden, with the help of Chinese Medicine, herbs, and totally changing my lifestyle I was able to heal myself from this, and this experience further helped me understand the power of this medicine.

Since completing school, I have worked in various types of Acupuncture clinics in Florida and North Carolina and have had the opportunity to treat and assist others on their healing journey. I absolutely love being an Acupuncturist and love how innovative and timeless the medicine is. As a practitioner it is exciting to know that there is always more knowledge to gain from this timeless medicine, and I look forward to honing my craft each and every day.
I moved to Knoxville Septeber 1st, so about 2 weeks ago. I moved to Knoxville from Asheville, NC where I had been living for the past 9 years. I moved to Knoxville because intuitively I felt called to move here, and all of the best decisions I have ever made have come about from following my gut. Since I have been here in Knoxville, many doors have opened up. I was introduced to an Acupuncturist named Amber Collins who owns Wild Elements Acupuncture and South Knox Holistic Health Center, and she invited me to rent office space from her. I found exactly the business setup I have always hoped for, a setup where I get to practice Acupuncture under the same roof of other talented healers while still having the sovereignty of my own business. I am honored to be practicing at South Knox Holistic Health Center which encompasses Amber Collins LAc, Shelagh LMT and a few other healers, all of whom are absolutely phenomenal people. I feel incredibly blessed to have linked up with these amazing women and look forward to collaborating in various ways to help share the healing arts with the community here.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a business has had plenty of challenges, and like anything those challenges over time have helped provide growth, and greater awareness in the long run. I truly believe that having a business has for me been one of the best tools for digging deep into my own subconscious to become aware of certain unhelpful beliefs that have limited me in the past, so I can change them. I have found that Having a business is a wonderful tool for shadow work because it has forced me to confront myself in ways I never expected and in the process it has allowed me to own my craft as a healer in a deeper way so that I can share it with the world. I have found that in some ways having a business is similar to health in that when things aren’t working out, it requires change and adaptation, and if we are willing to change and adapt, we can get through obstacles with even more resilience than before, and this change takes courage because change is never easy, but it is always worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Evolutionary Acupuncture?
My goal as an Acupuncturist is to help people evolve into their fullest most vibrant expressions of themselves. Classical Chinese medicine can be used to support the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of our lives to help us feel more integrated. As a healer, I like to utilize a variety of tools to help people become aware of how to connect to themselves and to the world around them. It is a goal of mine to teach my clients introspective tools that can be used to gain a deeper connection with themselves and their own innate wisdom. Learning to connect to ourselves and trust ourselves allows us to know how to better take care of ourselves by listening to what our bodies need in each moment.

As an Acupuncturist, I want to help my clients feel empowered in their life by teaching them a variety of ways to care for themselves and utilizing Acupuncture treatments to enhance life and longevity. Medicine does not need to be something we wait to utilize when we are already sick, Chinese medicine teaches us a way of living with nature that prevents illness from ever occurring. My role as an Acupuncturist is not just to help you when you are sick, but to help you take care of yourself so you don’t get sick in the first place.

Each Acupuncture session has a harmonizing effect on mind, body and spirit, in addition to this, I like to teach my clients how to utilize visualization, mantras, Qi Gong and other mindfulness exercises to help restructure their minds and create new ways of thinking that change their narrative and help them feel more empowered. It is important to me to give my clients assignments that they can do to nourish their wellness so that they can co-create their healing experience and find new ways to take charge of their health.

In the more recent past, I have assisted people who are dealing with auto-immune conditions, as well as Lyme disease and other hard to treat conditions. I also treat chronic pain as well as emotional grounding during intense life transitions. The beauty of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is that it meets people where they are at and can go as deep as someone is willing to go in their own healing journey. Some treatments I am doing facial rejuvenation Acupuncture and other sessions people might need support going through a dark night of the soul moment.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
For me, luck has shown up in my business life mostly in the form of signs and being in the right place at the right time. In Daoism, they talk a lot about going with the flow and being in a flow state which comes from first being in the present moment. I have found that when I am unsure of where to go or what to do next that if I can find ways to still my mind and be receptive, that there is some bread crumb of what the next step needs to be. I continue to learn that the answers lie in stillness and receptivity, and sometimes we need reminders to chill out and be receptive to what the universe wants to tell us. I have found that when I do take the time to listen to this guidance, that I am often led into exactly where I am supposed to be even if it doesn’t always make sense at the time.
