Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Beaushaw.
Hi Rebekah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m Rebekah – a creative photographer based in Knoxville, TN.
I have been specializing in editorial, headshot, and creative photography for 5 years. One thing that I learned in those 5 years is that I love the people of this city.
We are all in fact very different and have many stories to tell. I love telling those stories and showing off our personal, beautiful quirks through photography.
Mike, our videographer, (also my dad) has 16 years of experience specializing in videography. I have been tagging along with him to video gigs since middle school, helping with equipment, seeing the behind-the-scenes action, and even working alongside him. I remember manning a camera dolly on one of these gigs before I turned 12.
It all started with a change of seasons. I was in college aiming for a music degree but I had burned out. My love for it all soon turned to ashes so I had to turn in a different direction,
Trying to figure it all out, with two semesters left, I talked with my dad (Mike, our videographer) and he suggested photography. It combined my love for art and technicality into one pot. So with that, I continued onto my second to last semester and took a photography class.
I loved it.
I got super into it – and my dad saw that. Sometime toward the end of the semester, he blessed me with the camera I still use to this day, my Fujifilm XT-3. As soon as that happened, I was hit with many epiphanies. With many nights of teetering my thoughts, I took a risk – I dropped out of college.
It was weird. No structure, no plan, nothing. At some point, we took over my living room in my old house and turned it into a photo studio to learn. After many years of growing, learning to light, and meeting incredible people just for the love of it, we decided it was time to open for business.
Then during the pandemic, we were blessed with an incredible studio space. So to kill our insane amount of free time, we renovated an old warehouse into my dream in October 2020. I never thought that one day we would be working as a team (again).
It is amazing what we have been able to create and I am very grateful for the people I have met, and get to meet someday!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely bumpy in the beginning. At first, it was hard learning how to run a business on my own. The business side of things is its own world so I had to learn that over years of experience.
My advice – stay patient! Do your thing for your love of it and people will see that and it will not go unnoticed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional photographer and I have been specializing in editorial, headshot, and creative photography for 5 years. I am known for my editing style (colorful, yet true to life) and use of flash.
Mike, has been specializing in videography for 15 years. He specializes in cinematic and creative video production. I am most proud of our attention to detail in post-production. We take pride in making sure our work is clean in every shot that is handed to a client.
I think what sets us apart is the intention behind everything we do. We do it for the love of the craft, not for likes, attention, or money really. When your intentions are set on your heart, things come your way.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My #1 supporter is my dad, Mike.
With any dream I had, whether it was dumb or not, he has always believed that I could do it. He showed up to everything I did growing up and now we work together. I am the luckiest daughter in the world. Dad, I could have not done any of this without you. I am so blessed to have a dad that believes in me as much as you do. I can’t wait for what this year has in store for us!
Also, my husband, Josiah, has always been my cheerleader. He tagged along with us to a swing dancing expo where we filmed and shot Chicago Classic. He just wanted to tag along because he loves us and wanted to be a helping hand. He eventually wants to learn how to take photos and help alongside me and his new father-in-law. Josiah, you are amazing and I am excited to add you to the team someday!
My brother, Casey, has also been a great help throughout the years the business has been alive. It has been really fun to second shoot with him and he has taken some great shots. He has also helped me on multiple occasions as my light man. Casey, thank you for always being generous and also being a lifesaver, and for making me laugh all the time.
