Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Riendeau
Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up watching my dad Isaac Riendeau tattoo for as long as I can remember. I spent most of my time in the studio coloring, painting, drawing, and chatting with clients. Any time I was in the studio my dad was always teaching me little things here and there. This industry has always felt like home, I’ve meet some amazing people and built relationships that i will be forever grateful for.
When I graduated high school I moved to Knoxville and started my apprenticeship. I also helped work the front desk and ran the social media for my dad’s studio Knoxville Tattoo Collective. I truly owe where I am today to him and the other artists at KTC. Their guidance, allowing me to watch, ask questions, and learn from them, has shaped me into the artist I am now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced along the way is being so young in this industry, I feel like there are definitely times I’m not taken seriously. Not only am I young but I’m also a female in a male dominated industry. Which at times can be intimidating.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for fine line tattoos. I’m starting to do more black and grey pieces. I’m also starting to get more into color so stay tuned! I’m most proud of my growth as an artist and a tattooer. Being so young in this industry is definitely something that sets me apart from others. The way I present myself and our studio’s environment makes our clients feel welcomed and comfortable.
Which is something I try to really focus on knowing how nerve wracking and scary getting a tattoo can be.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When it comes to networking, social media has been my biggest tool. I started posting on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok as soon as I started my apprenticeship. And by my first year as a licensed tattoo artist my TikTok and Instagram has given me over half of my clientele. My best advice for someone trying to improve their networking and online presence in general is to stay consistent!
