Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Harvey.
Hi Nathan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I officially started Nate’s Mounting Services one year ago on my oldest son’s 18th birthday. Initially, I started mounting TVs in hope that I would give my children, Nate Jr, Natalie, and Josiah Nathan, an inheritance one day. My prayer was that it would help them avoid the mistakes I made as a youth.
When I was younger, I found my way into so much trouble that I eventually ended up incarcerated from age 18 until 26. Up until that point, I had been in and out of Juvenile and Youth Development Centers since age 12. Before receiving Jesus as my Lord and Savior, my life was withering away like a burning wick. I sold drugs, gang banged, and failed school. However, the grace of God eventually led me out of that lifestyle and way of thinking. Instead of returning to my old ways once out of prison, I started looking for real work. I filled out 75 job applications before finding a job at Knox Area Rescue Ministries.
The crazy thing is that I initially went to KARM to get familiar with the place. I had no job and no place to go, so my caseworker thought he would send me there when I was released from the Halfway house. My ambition and hard work quickly helped me work my way up to being a manager at KARM Thrift Store. After seven years of working and volunteering for KARM, I became a truck driver for a short period of time. Then, I became an apprentice for a handyman company. Once learning everything I needed to know to become a professional handyman, I started Nate’s Mounting Services.
Not long after, my best friend Lynn Clemons, a retired police officer and pillar of the community, believed in my vision and became co-owner of Nate’s Mounting Services. We now work together at making it a business to be reckoned with. Additionally, as a way of giving back to the community I once attempted to destroy as a troubled youth, I work for a community outreach ministry called Emerald Youth Foundation. My title there is Facilities Coordinator, which is at the Haslem Samson Ministry Complex in Lonsdale. The building sits exactly where I use to sell drugs and gang bang.
I also wrote a book series called, “Lost and Found: The Story of an At-Risk Youth.” Before I die, I want to write 10 more books that spread the message of hope and restoration. Besides this, I hope to one day be the #1 in TV mounting services that people can count on to get their TVs professionally mounted. Peace and love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a tough road being a business owner. It’s definitely not easy and most of the time I work all day, every day. But I know that my hard work will pay off someday, so I keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I mount TVs and install after-market power outlets so that cords are hidden. In addition to this, I replace ceiling fans, outlets, light covers, and install security cameras, etc.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My kids, my mom, and my siblings because they give me the motivation to keep going until something great happens for them. Also, everybody that God has used along the way to help me move forward. Of course, God gets the ultimate credit for opening doors and putting the right people and jobs in my path.
