Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Emmons.
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey there, my name is Katie. I grew up in a small town right outside of Knoxville Called Roane County. It was very small and drug-ridden. My parents didn’t believe in school, so I was home-schooled. I didn’t learn normal things like kids my age, instead, I was taught to clean and cook.
I didn’t have a voice as a child I was the youngest out of four children my dad was unreliable he felt more comfortable drinking his like away while my mother worked nonstop leaving my sister to raise us. My sister left the house when I was about 9 but that didn’t stop her from making sure I had an education so she begged and pleaded for me to go to school and eventually my mother snuck me out of the house and into a school.
We grew up very poor so I worked multiple jobs while in high school. Eventually, I graduated and put myself through cosmetology school, I really wanted to change people’s lives. I never want anyone to feel like I did as a child so I’m making that my life goal to make others feels like the most beautiful humans they can be.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The struggles of not having an education have been very rough, it makes you feel less than others because you don’t feel as knowledgeable.
Challenge: working multiple jobs all through school while not being able to afford dinner most nights.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a color specialist, I specifically focus on coloring hair. I’m very known for blonde hair.
I’m most proud to be able to provide shelter and clothing for myself. I’m also proud to make a difference in people’s lives, hair is a game-changer and making people feel special is the best part.
I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to sympathize and adapt to each client, I know how to make people feel special, sometimes kindness is all you need.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how our city is a little big city, and that we are surrounded by beautiful mountains.
The lack of entertainment.
