Hi Alex, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
AZ International, LLC. (FINE RUGS) is a multifaceted enterprise. The heart of the business is preserving and promoting the art of Afghan/Turkmen tribal rug making, in myriad ways. To that end, the company’s operations ebb and flow and shift based upon opportunities and conditions in Afghanistan, its surrounding region, Europe, and the United States. Currently, some of our major projects include the continued importing of rugs from Afghanistan (more below), dealing in large reproductions of antique rugs, acting as a distribution center in Knoxville, TN, USA, and maintaining our showroom in Knoxville, but we are also open for locals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To reflect on the challenges and obstacles I faced while trying to establish my business in the US market. Although I had the inside knowledge of making rugs and the support of a dedicated team, the journey to success was far from smooth.
Navigating the unfamiliar landscape of the US market as a newcomer presented its own set of challenges. I struggled to find the right market for our products and adapt to the ever-changing trends and fashionability of rugs. It was a constant battle to stay ahead and remain competitive in such a vast and dynamic industry.
Despite the bumps along the way, the passion and dedication of my team kept me motivated and determined to succeed. With perseverance and hard work, we were able to overcome these challenges and establish a successful business in the US.
I would say that the right contacts were essential in all of it.
