Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Capps.
Hi Ally, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After graduating from ETSU eight years ago, I started as a private practice orthopedic physical therapist in San Diego, CA. I enjoyed working with the active population across a wide age range, and I learned a lot from that practice regarding orthopedic and high-level athlete rehabilitation. We moved to Charlotte, NC, due to a job change for my husband. I worked in another larger, privately owned physical therapy clinic doing primarily orthopedic and geriatric care. It was there that I had my first child. Pelvic floor physical therapy was not offered at my workplace, and my OB/GYN didn’t educate me about postpartum rehabilitation. I was shocked at how different my body felt after having a baby! That was where my curiosity bloomed, and I began to take continuing education courses on pelvic health and pregnancy/postpartum healing. When we moved to Knoxville, we knew we would be here permanently because it always felt like home, and my family was only an hour away in Crossville, TN. The next couple of years would drive me forward in wanting to work for myself to specialize in pelvic health and help women across the age spectrum but also do it in a way that felt authentic to who I am.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is never a smooth road, and I am grateful for that. Due to my struggles, I have grown as an individual, a mother, and a business owner. Plus, I have been entirely transparent with all my patients throughout my journey, which has only solidified my relationships with them. The challenges have mostly been centered around breaking the typical “traditional” standpoint of what is expected from the patient’s point of view and letting them experience complete rehabilitation care without limitations.
We’ve been impressed with Belle Therapy + Wellness, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
My name is Dr. Ally Capps, DPT, and I specialize in pelvic floor physical therapy. I have extensive experience working with orthopedics due to my background. I created Belle Therapy + Wellness to give women a more boutique healthcare experience in their rehabilitation needs. I am very proud to say that I opened up my first location in August of 2023, but I continue to offer mobile physical therapy treatments as needed. Since opening, BTW, I have spent more time with my patients, leading to great results and lasting relationships. My patients are not productivity hours for me; they are people who matter, and I want them to feel that way every time they walk into my office.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I was raised to be a risk-averse individual; however, when opening your own business, there is always a considerable risk involved. I knew that if I didn’t take this risk and at least try, I would always have that nagging thought that would say, “What if?” and I refused to live like that anymore.
