Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Wright.
Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My background is as a photographer & graphic designer. A little over 13 years ago I saw a shift in the design market to overseas and decided I needed to do something if I didn’t want to go back to work in the corporate world. Coupled with my personal frustration when buying a house (they never looked, in person, like they did in the photos) so I decided to launch a videography business focusing solely on real estate. When I started the goal was to make a video that: 1. Showed the house well enough, that when someone set foot in it, they felt like they had already been there. 2. Do it in a pleasing “cinematic” way so it wasn’t a boring 15+ min walk through. My style has definitely changed in the past 13 years, but I still try for those 2 principles unless the agent specifically requests otherwise. I started with DIY equipment and a DV camera. Fastforward and now there is great off the shelf gear that has increased market saturation of videographers. However, the wonderful thing is, there is plenty of work to be had for everyone, and plenty of space for everyone to find their own style. Now I not only shoot real estate (RE) video, but also provide RE photos, 3D images and drone photos/video. Things have definitely gotten more technologically advanced!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been easy. When I first started I was the only one in East Tenn that was shooting exclusively real estate video. So not only was I finding my way artistically, but also in business. Trying to connect with realtors and brokers, and show them how RE video could help change the way they marketed properties wasn’t easy. Sales people can be the hardest to sell to! Convincing them that this new unknown product, video, was worth investing in was an uphill battle. Learning, and teaching them how to utilize YouTube, and other outlets wasn’t easy either. But slowly I started gaining not just clients, but business relationships. Word of mouth definitely helped. And that’s been a good thing, the relationships. Some of my clients, now friends, have been using my services for almost 10 years now. And that helps, now there are a lot more RE photographers & videographer. Some are part time, while others are full time. But for me, it always has been, and will remain to be my full time passion.
We’ve been impressed with Wright Brothers Productions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wright Brothers Productions has been offering professional architectural imaging services for over 12 years. Originally focused on the real estate market, we transitioned into offering high-quality photography, videography and aerial imaging to Realtors, Architects, Construction Services, Builders, Interior Designers and more. If it is real property, land or a building we will photograph/video it. Also we are licensed, including the FAA’s Part 107 / Drone Pilot Certification, and insured so our clients have piece of mind.
A couple of the things that sets us apart are; 1. We like to focus on relationships because not everything is about money. 2. Our experience helps really see the property in a different light. Not every house we shoot is a multi-million dollar mansion, but every house is a home to someone and deserves to be presented in the best way possible.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I grew up on Albuquerque, NM. And before all the subdivisions around us were built up, I loved exploring on foot and bike all the mesas (fields) with my friends looking for lizards, treasure, etc.
