Daily Inspiration: Meet Lakeisha Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeisha Lee.

Hi Lakeisha; so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been making lotion for about 10 years. My youngest daughter has eczema, and we’ve spent lots of time and money going to the dermatologist. She always wanted to be like her big sisters and wear lotions from name-brand stores. So, I decided to make her something she could use to give her the smell of the big brands without harm. I stayed up endless nights searching for what would work for her. I was sure of two things: MY products had to be natural, and my products needed to smell good. What we discovered was my products cleared her skin up remarkably. Like many of you, when the world shut down in 2020, I had an overgrowth of lavender and rosemary. Thinking about what I could do, I decided to try entrepreneurship, hoping the world would love my products as much as we do.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has only sometimes been smooth. I did like most when they decided to start a business. I obtained my LLC and EIN and developed my products. I made everything I could think of. First, I had too many products and needed to look at the cost or time it took me to make them. I was spending more than I was making. I then went through a major life change and wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue my business, so I stopped and took things really slow to figure out what I wanted to do. I didn’t want to skincare, but Luv-Lee Natural’s was much more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an educator, so my passion is teaching students how to be successful at whatever they choose. I specialize in special education in teaching through trauma-informed practices and teaching social-emotional learning. This is my why and the passion behind everything I do. When I am not in the classroom or obtaining my 2nd master’s in school administration, I am focused on self-care. I am known for my eczema lotion cream and, most recently, for creating the self-care movement where I encourage women to journey to self-discovery. I create space and post content to encourage women on their self-care healing journey. I am an author who published 5 Steps to prioritizing self-care and Breathe- A Journey to Self-reflection. I also lead “She Hikes,” a movement encouraging women to get out into nature and be active while connecting with others. This is the area I am most proud of because I get to take skills I teach in the classroom daily and apply them to daily adult living life. As we age, we get so caught up in the hustle of daily living we forget to “Just Breathe” I serve as a reminder to practice this and pour into yourself so you can pour into others.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is summer. As a child, I would spend the summers with my grandparents. I remember being outside and playing with others. Going for long walks in the woods, climbing trees, and probably getting into trouble. As a child, the sky didn’t feel like the limit. I could be as creative and adventurous as I wanted to be. When I think back at things that give me peace, I always think back to being at my grandparent’s house during the summer, the trees, the shade, the breeze, the food, and the fun, and when I hike, I feel a sense of nostalgia.
