Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Stewart.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a makeup artist, I think, as soon as I could pick up a makeup brush! Even when I was very little, I had some of my moms old makeup from the 80’s I would use to give ‘makeovers ‘ to anyone willing! It has always come naturally to me, but I’ve spent many years honing my skills to try to get really good at it. I’ve spent 14 years, now, beautifying brides in all the various places I’ve lived, mostly along the East coast. It’s not always easy with 4 kids and a husband to balance it, but I LOVE what I do, and there is nothing comparable to seeing brides so happy when they see their makeup done, and supporting them while I’m there. The energy is amazing with my brides, and Im always there for it – to give them a wonderful experience and a makeup look I put my heart and soul into.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been the easiest thing, to balance family and work life with brides. Ive gotten better at it as I’ve gotten older, setting aside and organizing my bridal time! My ten year old was diagnosed with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis when he was 6, and that was life changing for him and our family. He had emergency surgery less than a year after diagnosis that saved his life. My life as an artist was put on hold for quite a bit of time, but it helped me to re-focus on my son, and take somewhat of a forced break. I didnt know it at the time, but I needed that step back. I thank God all the time for that surgery, and how healthy he is now, and I’ve become a stronger mom, now and probably business woman, too. I dont take people for granted, or the opportunities I get to work with people.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bridal looks that are geared more towards glowing, radiant skin – and makeup that looks ethereal! I really focus on giving my bride’s skin a lot of attention! Sometimes, I’ll help them pre-wedding to get a really good skincare regimen either established, or tweaked. Soft glam is my specialty and I love to really amp up my client’s best features with subtle use of color. I Am very proud of the fact that I mix my foundations carefully, and apply in such a way that my client’s never feel like they’ve got caked on makeup. They just feel glowing! I give my client’s as much time as I can (even ongoing support through email) to prep their skin prior to makeup application, and prior to the big day!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Knoxville is a booming place for optimistic dreamers!! I have made some amazing connections, here so far, with other driven creatives, and their passion towards connecting is amazing! There are so many opportunities for people of all ages to find meaningful work with good people in Knoxville.
