Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Beeler
Hi Brittney , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When someone asks me how I got started in photography, I always respond that it was a “God thing.” I was in nursing school at the time and between classes I would go to a local hiking spot and just take photos of landscapes, flowers and nature. I had a friend from high school reach out to me to ask if I would take her engagement photos for her. I agreed, but warned her that I had no experience with posing, editing, etc.
Somehow she had enough faith in me and still wanted me to take her engagement photos and I ended up also photographing her wedding. Shortly after that, friends and family were reaching out asking me to take their photos. Even though I had no idea what I was doing, I fell in love with photography and learned something new each time I picked up my camera.
There is something about creating an image that brings a smile to someone’s face or evokes an emotion from them that I can’t quite explain. To be able to give someone a tangible memory to hold onto of their loved ones is an honor that I don’t take lightly.
I am in my thirteenth year of being a photographer and I hope that this journey is endless. Whether that be photographing weddings, engagements, family photos or photographing wildlife, the sun coming up over the mountains or a wildflower I’m not anticipating putting my camera down any time soon.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, it has been relatively smooth. That doesn’t mean that it hasn’t come without it’s share of learning experiences.
I think one major thing that all photographers struggle with is comparison. Especially when you are first getting started and learning your own style and technique. It’s difficult not to look at other experienced photographer’s work and not struggle with comparison. What I have learned about this though is that you don’t want your work to look like someone else’s. Photography is art and art is unique. Therefore, your work should be a representation of you and as long as you feel good about what you’ve created, that’s all that should matter.
Part of being a photographer is accepting that each day and each session is a learning opportunity. I don’t believe that you are truly ever finished learning.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Knoxville portrait and wedding photographer. I specialize in engagements and weddings but also enjoy working with families.
I’m the most proud of how far I’ve come. When I did my first session, I never anticipated that I would one day be considered a wedding photographer. I’m proud that despite some hard days, I never threw in the towel and called it quits. I don’t think I would be me without my camera in my hand.
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I don’t want you to feel like a client. I want you to feel like a good friend. My goal is to make you as comfortable and confident in front of the camera as possible. Whether that be cracking a joke or being your biggest hype girl, I’ll do my best to give you an experience and images that you’ll love for years to come.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Photography isn’t my full time job. I have my full time Monday-Friday job and pursue photography in between those times. I am also in the process of building a travel website that will showcase places that I’ve visited and details about places to eat, hidden gems and what you can find there.
