Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Thomison
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography has always been apart of my life! As a child my grandpa was a photographer as well as my dad and mom both having a turn at pursuing photography to some extent. I joke that I was destined to do this. It was in college that I invested in my first professional camera and took to taking photos of roommates, friends as they got engaged (I went to a private Christian university where “ring by spring” was a thing!), and documenting my own life for an online blog that I had!
My online story telling of my own life did gain traction and I was asked to travel to India on a trip for a tourism company! I think that was the first time I realized that my love for travel and photography could be combined.
Fast forward to 2021 when I was planning my own wedding – the wedding photographer that I booked came over for dinner one night and saw that I had a great deal of camera gear (that had been untouched for a few years!) she encouraged me to pick my gear back up and in the spring of 2022 I started what is now Kristen Thomison, a wedding and event photography company that has traveled the country and world documenting people’s love stories!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh absolutely not! I think that every business owner experiences the struggles at some point or another. Doubts of myself and my work but also the growing pains of starting a business in a town that I am not from! I’m grateful for the friends in the industry I have made along the way even for a season. Having people to do this with makes the biggest difference.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in wedding event and couples photography! Iconic, timeless, and romantic are a few words to describe my photography style. I joke and say that I promise to capture the classic photos that your grandma wants on her walls but I also will be there to capture the sweet in between moments like your brother shedding a tear or you with your friends tearing up the dance floor! Being fully in the moment and present on your day I am able to anticipate the events as well as emotions while guiding you through your day with your planner team!
