Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lixx. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Skankbanger was formed in 2010 when guitarist “Ashley Lixx” managed a Long John Silvers after being fired from the David Lee Roth band for being “Overly Flamboyant and Wild.” While interviewing LJS applicants, Ashley was impressed with the job history of a young man named “Trevor Hart,” which included stints at Krystal, Carpet World, and as the former lead singer of the Tiny River Band (precursor to the Little River Band). Trevor recommended his 2 roommates for employment and introduced Ashley to “Stacii Blade” (former drummer in the Anderson County Reform School Band) and bassist “Blackie Rose” (who “really likes fish!”).
After finding common ground with their love of 80’s Hair, Metal music & fashion, the foursome formed the band Skankbanger for extra money because they were let go from Long John Silvers. The group toured and did well for themselves despite their lack of education and played to large crowds who thought the band was Poison. At the height of their popularity and peak of their substance abuse, they disbanded when Ashley was re-hired by Long John Silvers.
During those dark years, the legend of Skankbanger grew larger than their waist sizes. They decided to reform in 2018 but needed to remember how to play. They planned to hire a music instructor using a new technology called “the internet.” The Skanks needed help and contacted a young, flamboyant musician that caught their eye named “Davey Stranger” through the website of his band “Craigslist Casual Encounters.” After some confusion about what he was hired for, it was decided it would be cheaper to put him in the band as a guitarist and relearn to play as they go. When Skankbanger returned to the stage as a 5 piece, the audience was way bigger, and they welcomed the band back with open arms and wallets! The Skankbanger 80’s Rock Extravaganza was bigger, better, and badass beyond compare, attacking the senses like a 4-clawed tank that will blow your panties off!
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Losing our jobs at LJS was very hard for us. You don’t realize what kind of grip hush puppy addiction has on a person until you are forced to stop due to a damn restraining order. But you push through with the help of places like Cookout & Captain D’s. When the going gets tough, you borrow money from the gullible and buy more beer!
