Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Butler
Hi Alexis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I didn’t realize until after high school that my passion was photography. Looking back at it now it should have been obvious! In elementary school I had a disposable camera that I would use to document our family trips. I even used my Nintendo DS to take pictures with when I had used up all the film on my camera. My parents then gifted me my first point-and-shoot Kodak camera one Christmas very shortly after discovering I loved to take pictures, and this is where it really all began!
I grew up in a military family, so moving was very common for us. I remember using my camera no matter where we had moved and I always brought it with me to document new scenery and new friends. Because of this, all of my childhood friends knew I always had my camera on me, and we would film skits, “vlogs” that never made it on YouTube (lol), and we had many pictures of us all playing in the snow, hiking through the woods, or swimming in the hurricanes. We all look back on those memories often.
After graduating high school I then understood that Photography can be a career and that was something I never thought about before then. I enrolled in Pellissippi Community College and was on my way to getting started with my new career!
God has blessed me and is the reason I am where I am at today in my business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t use a “smooth road” to describe anything in life. Everything has its ups and downs, and certainly does maintaining a business, and that’s ok! I very quickly found that Photography is more marketing, editing, content creating, etc. than it is taking pictures. I had never seen myself as a businesswoman and in order to get where I am at today I had to force myself to learn. Turns out that I was wrong; I am certainly now in the business life and I wouldn’t change a thing! It’s definitely difficult to get started and also to keep up with social media. Social media is constantly changing and to stay updated on things like this is a never ending learning experience. It is 100% worth it!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Portrait Photographer located in Corryton, TN and I’m right outside of Knoxville so I do consider myself a Knoxville Photographer. I specialize in anything from Senior portraits, family, maternity, couples, Weddings, etc. I know pictures are not comfortable for everyone, so I personally like to show my warm personality along with my goofy side. This makes individuals a lot more comfortable. I also love to laugh and make people laugh during their sessions and this is a great way to make people not only loosen up, but also get to connect with me and I feel like at the end of the session I personally know each client and that is a great feeling!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I can be reached by email, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. I am very active on all socials to make sure I don’t miss any questions or inquiries. I also have a link where people can book a session very easily and if they have any questions I am always happy to help. If a type of session isn’t listed on the site, reach out and we can talk about any creativity ideas and make it happen!
