Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Leigh Vogel.
Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a certified makeup artist and licensed cosmetologist with over ten years under my belt! I was in cosmetology school when I discovered my true passion for makeup artistry. Once I graduated and received my license, I moved to Fort Lauderdale to attend Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry for their Fashion/Production program.
Flash forward almost 11 years and my career has taken me from fashion and print in Miami to music videos and commercials in Austin to TV and live events in Los Angeles to weddings and ad campaigns in Knoxville.
I began my career motivated to prove to everyone I could… while now looking back on my resume of all the faces I’ve painted, projects I’ve been a part of and people I’ve connected with and I wow myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After I completed school and began my career, I always felt “lucky”. Everything seemed to flow from one job to the next. I seemed to always be in the right place at the right time and meeting the right people. Three years into my career I had a wake-up call – I was in my own way.
I had developed almost an entitled mentality and couldn’t understand why that next job wasn’t coming as it always had. I realized that I had never needed to try which meant I didn’t know how to take myself seriously as an artist. I didn’t know what I truly had to offer. I didn’t even know what my style was.
I had to look within and find my worth to understand how to package that for the people I wasn’t encountering in the right place at the right time. It was hard stepping out of my comfort zone and learning how to depend on everything outside of luck to get to the next step.
Since then, I’ve had struggles but now I know how to get through them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
With over ten years of experience, I am truly able to do a little bit of everything involving makeup and hair.
My artistry has blessed me with opportunities to work on various TV shows like Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, commercials for companies like Torchy’s Tacos, music videos for musicians like Shakey Graves, live sporting events for Fox Sports, and work with high-profile clientele. I am most proud of living in multiple cities with larger markets and successfully rebuilding my career in each.
Most recently since settling in Knoxville, I have discovered a passion for creating timeless looks a bride will forever look back on with joy in their hearts. I strongly believe the most beautiful part about anyone is what is on the inside.
I pride myself on being able to bring that inner beauty to the outside for all to see by taking the time to know each bride’s story and create a look that is personal to them.
What’s next?
Since moving to Knoxville in 2019, I have become a mother of two with no plans of moving to another city for a very long time if ever at all.
That said, my goal is to continue to grow my career in East Tennessee as an on-location hair and makeup artist for brides and productions.
In the next 2-3 years, I would love to offer brides and their bridal parties a cute studio space to have their bridal trials and/or day of services to take place if desired.
