Check Out Brynn Crowell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynn Crowell.

Hi Brynn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a hairstylist professionally since 2004, & even before beauty school, it was my passion & most often my side hustle. I had found something I loved & was good at. Back then I traded haircuts for art, or beer, or even a good mixtape. After school, I realized what Knoxville was lacking & decided to open my own salon where I could be as creative as I wanted & encouraged others to do the same.

I opened Lox in 2006, hired my first employee, & worked my butt off. I loved every second! It has since grown to include a barbershop, spa, & nail salon with a staff of 25. My mission has been not only to offer exceptional services, & an all-inclusive atmosphere, but also to educate others about sustainable beauty. Lox is a Certified Sustainable Salon that recycles all salon waste & only carries products that are cruelty-free, vegan, & eco-friendly. Lowering our carbon footprint one guest at a time!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being a female entrepreneur amidst a community of men has had its challenges & I have had to fight to be heard. Overall, I’ve found when you’re passionate about something the obstacles only make you that much stronger.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Anyone can cut hair, but not everyone can do it well. I enjoy cutting & styling the most as you can change a person’s whole demeanor & outlook on life with one good haircut. My favorite memory was working with the local Women’s Shelter & watching these women light up after their haircut & truly seeing their confidence lifted. It is truly amazing to see & be a part of such a change. I am grateful for every opportunity I have to give back to the community through the art of hairdressing.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The trends are pushing more towards eco-friendly products, less packaging, & even product refills to cut down on waste. I hope more salons start to push for more sustainable practices & realize the impact that the beauty industry has on the planet.
