Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylah Whaley.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve wanted to run my own business since I was young. The idea of building something for myself always pulled at me. In college, I tried selling hair extensions, and that failed fast. I didn’t have the money to invest. I tried again with athletic wear, but the inventory costs stopped me. I put my entrepreneurship dreams on pause so I could finish school, but I never let go of the idea.
During that time, I coached tumbling at Premier Athletics. I started making their Canva graphics and got curious about how things worked behind the scenes. That pushed me back to school for a master’s in Computer and Information Sciences. I thought I’d become a web developer. While I was in grad school, I picked up small client projects and realized I loved the design side more than the coding. UX/UI felt right, and I landed my first job in the field right after graduation.
I kept freelancing, tried launching a website template shop, and made zero sales. I pivoted again and launched “Freshly Pressed Nails” (a press-on nails business), which did okay. But every time I worked on a site, it felt different. I loved the process. I loved seeing someone’s idea turn into something real. As I built more client projects, my confidence grew. In 2024, I booked my highest-paying web design client ever, and something clicked. I knew I could make this my business.
That moment led me to create Kreative Hustle Studio, LLC. I wanted to build a space where women entrepreneurs could see what’s possible for themselves through a strong brand and website. I’m grateful for every twist in the journey because it all brought me right here. And I’m excited to see where I can take this next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I’ve had a few trial-and-error seasons. I’ve launched businesses that didn’t work. I didn’t have the money to invest in inventory. My first template shop made zero sales. I even stepped away from web design at one point because I thought it wasn’t for me. All of those moments felt heavy at the time.
Since officially launching Kreative Hustle in June, I’ve still had challenges. Building visibility takes work. Getting consistent clients takes time. Some days feel slow. But for where I am right now, the growth has been solid. Every project reminds me why I started, and every step makes the vision feel a little closer.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a UX/UI designer and a web designer who builds websites for mostly women entrepreneurs. I specialize in Showit (the website platform) where I focus on helping new and growing business owners show up with confidence online. I create custom and templated websites that make it easier for women to launch and grow without feeling overwhelmed.
People know me for clean layouts, bold visuals, and websites that feel polished but still personal. My clients always tell me they appreciate how easy I make the process. I guide them, teach them, and help them see what’s possible for their brand. The best part of my work is watching someone look at their site and realize, “Wow, I can really do this.” That moment never gets old.
I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown in this field. I started with Canva graphics as a tumbling coach, and now I’m building full websites, leading UX projects, running a brand of my own, and launching a supplemental business where I will start selling website templates again. I’m also proud that I’ve kept going through the mistakes, pivots, and failed launches.
What sets me apart is my mix of design skill, tech knowledge, and my ability to make clients feel seen. I don’t just hand over a website. I help people step into the version of themselves they’ve always wanted to be. My work is about design, but it’s also about confidence, clarity, and giving women the push they need to launch boldly.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The web design industry is moving toward faster builds, easier tools, and more done-for-you solutions. People want professional sites without waiting months or dealing with tech stress. I see more designers offering quicker turnaround services, more template-based options, and more guidance for business owners who want to launch with confidence.
I’m leaning into that shift with new offers I plan to release before the new year.
Layout (layoutmade.com) will be the first website template shop made for cheer, tumbling, and gymnastics coaches. It combines my background as a former gymnast and coach with my current design work. I’m also introducing Website in a Week and Website in a Day for people who need a full site built quickly but still want it to look polished and professional.
Long term, I want to teach young women how to use web design as a way to build their own independence. I want to teach the skill, but also help them set goals, build confidence, and see their own potential. The industry is becoming more accessible, and I want to be part of opening that door for the next generation.
