Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Webb.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began a career in bookkeeping almost 30 years ago, working for a small oil & gas company in East Tennessee. At the birth of my first son, I began working remotely for this same company. I transitioned from there to a publicly listed oil & gas company, where I remained until 2012. After this, I began working independently, performing a small amount of bookkeeping services for local entities in East Tennessee. My business continued growing, adding to its portfolio clients from North Carolina, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas. Most recently, I returned to college and completed my accounting degree in 2025 at University of the Cumberlands. My sons are currently enrolled at this same university. I am now growing my firm into an accounting firm, in which my sons and I are all partners. We look forward to serving our community and businesses on a nationwide level for many years to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The transition from onsite work to remote work was a challenge initially. However, my husband and my sons stuck with me through it all, and I am so very thankful and so very blessed for that.

Discerning Edge Business Services offers a full suite of bookkeeping, payroll, and fractional accounting services. We also offer Accounting Information System setups, as well as assistance for the small business owner and initial business setup in that realm. As we grow, future offerings will include audit and attestation, as well as tax prep and filing. Further on, we hope to offer financial advisory services as well. Our firm provides clients the freedom from financial processes so that they may concentrate on growing their business ideas to their fullest.
Any big plans?
We are looking forward to expanding into more states, as well as expanding services to include tax prep, auditing and attestation, along with training and full setup of Enterprise Systems unique to the client. We feel that our unique backgrounds in accounting, IT, as well as design, will all work together fluidly to provide our clients with a unique edge in the business world.
