Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer And Derek Pike.
Jennifer and Derek, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Jennifer had been pet sitting in peoples homes since she was a teenager. As an adult she went back to school and was working as a substitute teacher. Derek was working as a maintenance technician. During Covid there was no work for substitute teachers as learning was virtual, so Jennifer and Derek began fostering dogs through a rescue. They got experience with physical therapy for dogs after surgery, pregnant mamas and birthing puppies, handling different types of dog aggression and more. The love for dogs continued as they cared for former fosters when their adoptive families went on vacation. Jennifer and Derek began to look for property where they could build their own boarding facility, and provide the care they would expect their own dogs to receive. They found 16 acres to start the next part of their journey with boarding.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Jennifer and Derek looked in many states and at many facilities for sale, however none reached the standard they were looking for and so they instead found the property they now reside on and are expanding their business on.
The area is small so business is growing slowly, but strongly. This area is poised for growth and the population is increasing.
The beliefs in pet care are different in this area than some others, but we hope to be a part of changing the knowledge of pet care and expanding the experiences available.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Pawsitively Down Home specializes in pet boarding. We provide 16 acres for pawsitive enrichment with dogs. We believe in working with dogs mentally as well as physically so they are comfortable and happy while in our care. We are known for the love we provide to every animal as if they were our own, and for upholding communication with their families while they are away. We are most proud of our ability to provide one on one and small group attention. We have over 20 years of experience caring for cats and dogs, and we are beyond proud to provide a place to stay that we would be comfortable leaving our own pets. We currently offer dog and cat boarding with enrichment built in. We also offer puppy playground where puppies only can interact with one another, get mental stimulation, physical exercise, work on basic needs such as potty training, leash walking and social interactions. Our location is conveniently located between Nashville and Knoxville just a few miles off of I-40. “We are on the way.” Many of our clients have traveled to receive care with us.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
