Rising Stars: Meet Sheri Porterfield of Powell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Porterfield.

Hi Sheri, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started making my own sugar scrubs in 2013 because I wanted to control what I put on my skin and I wanted to smell good despite many allergies to mainstream fragrances. I created my own recipes and fragrances with sensitive skin and scent sensitivities in mind.

I’d been giving my scrubs away for years as gifts and in 2018 I decided to put labels on them with the name Sherapy. It’s what my sister-in-law calls my auntie therapy sessions with her daughters. And that’s what got me started on this business.

Since then, I have created several new products with skin sensitivities in mind.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Right after I started my business Covid hit. I had no festivals to sell at. Fortunately I did very well online and was able to stay in business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in skincare for sensitive skin. My best selling product is my foaming sugar scrub. It’s a soap based scrub, but still very moisturizing. People like that it doesn’t make a mess, smells great, and they can shave with it.
I feel best about my products that help with sleep, anxiety, and pain though. That’s where my passion truly lies. What sets us apart from others is that we do it in a very cute way. We dress up like chefs in pink and tie dye. Our booth looks like candy land. We look like so much fun that it draws a lot of attention to us.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We do offer a wholesale program for others who want to sell our products. We also donate samples to online influencers to promote our products.
