Rising Stars: Meet Tammy Rivera of LAFOLLETTE TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Rivera.

Hi Tammy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my cleaning business about 20 years ago after moving from Florida to East Tennessee. Back in Florida, we had a small business, but when we came here, we needed to start fresh and get established with the local community. We bought a small amount of cleaning supplies, made our own stenciled signs, and put them up around town to get started.

Today, I work from home and manage a team of 5 to 8 employees who work part-time to full-time. I’m grateful to be able to run the business remotely while still staying connected to clients and my crew. It’s been a long journey, but one built on hard work, consistency, and community support.
My husband and I started our journey together 25 years ago with very little — we didn’t even have money for basic things. I remember when we got married, we actually donated blood at the Plant City Strawberry Festival just to get tickets and called that our honeymoon. From those humble beginnings, we’ve built ourselves up to a six-figure income and now work for ourselves. That’s something we are very proud of.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle along the way has been building and keeping a reliable staff. Once I started hiring workers, I quickly realized how challenging it can be to find consistency and dependability. On top of that, I had to learn the ins and outs of all the business requirements, everything from taxes to paperwork while still making sure the quality of work stayed strong.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I do / What I specialize in:
I run a residential and commercial cleaning business, specializing in reliable, detailed house cleaning and move-in/move-out services.

What I’m known for:
I’ve built my business on personal service and long-term trust with clients. Even though we’ve grown and I’m not out in the field as much as I used to be, I stay very connected with both my clients and my team.

What I’m most proud of:
I’m proud that after 20 years, we’ve stayed small enough to remain personal while still growing to serve more families and businesses in our community. Many clients stay with us because they know we truly care about their homes.

What sets me apart:
Unlike larger companies, I don’t just send a crew and step away — I make myself available to customers, and I personally do random quality control checks to ensure our standards are consistently met.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t think I have one specific favorite memory, but my fondest memories are of growing up in a house with a pool and a trampoline. All the neighborhood kids would come over, so our house was always full of children and laughter. My dad was a fisherman, so we had seafood cookouts all the time — which meant our place became known for seafood, swimming, and fun on the trampoline. Our house was always the “go-to” spot and the center of the action in the neighborhood.
