Daily Inspiration: Meet Erika Biddix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Biddix.

Hi Erika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I spent 20+ years planning corporate meetings and events—think: giant ballrooms, endless coffee orders, and the kind of logistics that would make your head spin. I was really good at it. But somewhere along the way, I realized I had traded my life for a paycheck.

So, in 2016, I took the leap and started my own event agency. It was successful by all the “traditional” markers—big-name clients, decent revenue, growth year over year. But while it looked shiny on the outside, it wasn’t the work that lit me up. Around the same time, I quietly started a second business—one that supported female entrepreneurs. It was 100% purpose-driven.

Spoiler alert: The big shiny business imploded (spectacularly) after reaching 7 figures – and the purpose-driven business survived. I went all-in on creating spaces—both virtual and in-person—where women could build businesses aligned with their actual lives. No hustle culture. No gatekeeping. Just community, strategy, and support.

Now, I run two brands: Aught (a coworking and virtual community for women entrepreneurs) and Erika Biddix (my coaching/facilitation/speaking biz). I spend my days helping women redefine success and build whatever-they-want kind of businesses—that support, not compete with, their lives.

And honestly? It’s exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve not met a single entrepreneur that could honestely say the road is always smooth.

The truth is, I’ve bootstrapped both of my businesses from day one—no investors, no personal wealth, no backup plan. Just a credit line and a belief that I could figure it out (plus a few sleepless nights and a LOT of spreadsheets). There have been more times than I care to count where I’ve stared at a bank balance that made me want to throw up.

Add in three kids, the usual dose of self-doubt, and a global pandemic, and yeah—it’s been a ride.

One of the hardest parts? Believing in something so deeply—supporting women entrepreneurs with real community and honest strategy—and not always seeing the dollars follow as quickly as the impact. We’ve had to get scrappy. Creative. Relentlessly committed.

But the wins? They’re worth it. Seeing women come into our community and finally feel seen, supported, and capable of doing things their way? That’s why I keep going. Even when the road feels bumpy. Or uphill. Or like it’s made entirely of Legos.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I help women build businesses that actually fit their lives—not take them over.

Through my two brands—Aught and Erika Biddix—I support female entrepreneurs with strategy, structure, and community. Aught is the where: a coworking space in Knoxville and a virtual community for women around the world. Erika Biddix is the who: my coaching, facilitation, and speaking work that helps women get clarity, make moves, and define success on their own terms.

What I’m known for? Telling the truth. I won’t give you a cookie-cutter plan or pretend there’s one “right way” to build a business. Instead, I help women get clear on what they actually want, then we map a path to get there that doesn’t sacrifice their sanity, values, or sleep. I also make a mean Google Doc.

What sets me apart is that I’ve lived all sides of entrepreneurship: the shiny version, the crash-and-burn, and the steady rebuild. I’ve been the overbooked service provider, the lonely founder, the woman crying over spreadsheets at midnight—and I’ve used all of it to build something better. I don’t just coach women. I create spaces—real and virtual—where they’re seen, heard, and equipped to lead.

And what I’m most proud of? The ripple effect. Our work doesn’t stop with one woman—we see the impact extend to her clients, her family, her team, her community. That’s the magic.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people who know me now—confident, speaking on stages, running two brands—are surprised to learn that I used to proudly say, “I like being a worker bee.” I genuinely loved being the one behind the scenes, checking boxes, getting things DONE. And I was really good at it. But over time, I learned that being good at something and enjoying it long-term aren’t always the same thing.

Another surprise? I used to say, “I’d rather do literally anything than sales.” Sales felt icky. Manipulative. Like something you had to survive rather than something that could feel natural. But that was before I understood what it meant to sell something I truly believed in. Now, when I talk about my work, it never feels like sales—it feels like service. Like inviting someone into a transformation I know is possible because I’ve seen it happen again and again.

Also—curveball—I’m a giant introvert. I love community and deep connection, but I need silence, spreadsheets, and snacks to recharge. So naturally, I built businesses where I get to support women in ways that honor their energy, too.
