Today we’d like to introduce you to Enfo
Hi Enfo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up on a lot of dirty south 90’s-2000’s rap from my dad who came to Tennessee from Georgia. I always felt inspired to make my own songs even from when I was 7 years old and by the time I was 15 I had started to study the craft and really learn how to be an artist. I started off recording songs in my closet with a mic from Amazon in 2017 when I was 17, then in 2021 I started going to a professional studio which I still record at. I moved to Knoxville when I was seven from Roane County and I went to all three Bearden schools. We lived paycheck to paycheck and I had to help out from time to time. I was always in grown folks business given that I grew up fast compared to some people… but it could’ve been worse. Even though I’m East Tennessee through and through, I have a lot of influence from Georgia and South Carolina because of family. I’m 24 years old now and have created my own path.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been several bumps along the way it definitely hasn’t been smooth, My parents were real young when they had me and my grandparents had to help out a lot as a child. My parents ain’t been together since I was 6 and the next couple of years my life were full of unpredictable circumstances that scarred me for life. I’ve been scammed before in my career and I’ve had artists I’ve worked with be shady. Losing family members and having a couple of my friends die at a young age- to betrayal in my family have definitely shaped me into the man I’ve become.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel like creating music for the city is what my goal has been for a little bit because I felt like that was lacking in the local scene. I grew up hearing all these Atlanta artists shouting out their city and neighborhoods and I realized I could do it for Knoxville. I prefer a dirty south type of sound and try to make some timeless tunes that people from this great city can resonate with. I want people 15 years from now to be like, “Enfo really showed Knoxville love unapologetically and made neighborhood music”.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I know a good amount of Knoxville history and in general I’m a history nerd.
