Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
There was a time in my life when I believed that complete selflessness was love. I thought if I poured everything into those around me—fixing, rescuing and meeting every need—it would result in love and security. I convinced myself that being logical was better than being intuitive. In reality, I was abandoning myself by denying my God-given strengths. I mistook self-abandonment for selflessness.
Eventually, a moment of clarity arrived that offered an entirely new perspective. I should have been listening to God first, and then loving myself enough to follow that guidance. Honoring yourself invites others to love you for who you are, not what you do. The balance of healthy sacrifice with filling your own cup, provides an abundance of love to those around you, that couldn’t be achieved with consistently depleting yourself.
This journey back to myself became the foundation of our candle business. It started as a way to reconnect—each candle poured and each piece of content filmed and edited, is a practice in healing and reclaiming the creative, nurturing spirit I thought I’d lost.
Making candles has become a tool to channel this rediscovery. It’s a way to show my daughters how women can embrace their feminine strengths to create something meaningful, impactful, and enduring. Through candle-making, I’ve found that combining softness and creativity with purpose and intention can lead to a kind of success that logic alone could never achieve.
Our business isn’t just about candles—it’s about creating environments and experiences that elevate the ordinary into something impactful. Our candles serve to remind others—and myself—that when we live in alignment with God, trust ourselves, and keep our hearts open, we can create love and connection that last a lifetime.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has definitely had its bumps, but it’s also been an incredible example of how small, intentional choices—guided by the seeds God plants in your heart—can grow into something fruitful. It all started as a simple choice to explore a new hobby. I chose to try candle-making for fun, then decided to give them as gifts. I didn’t realize at the time that those gifts were seeds being planted for a business.
When people started reaching out, asking how they could order more, I made the choice to name my business. That led to learning how to build a website, registering my business and diving headfirst into entrepreneurship. As an artist at heart, running a business was uncharted territory for me, but it’s been a journey of learning and trust.
Today, I’m still planting seeds as I grow—creating more social media content, learning marketing, and navigating this early stage of business. Some choices have been easy, others incredibly challenging and time-consuming, but every step has been worth it.
In just this first year, I’ve had some incredibly proud moments: hosting candle-making workshops with my oldest daughter, filming ASMR content in the studio with my youngest, partnering with my husband to create candles and gifts for his open houses and clients, fulfilling custom orders and even creating a signature fragrances and candles for high end businesses. Each of these milestones reminds me that every small step—no matter how insignificant it feels in the moment—can lead to something more fulfilling than you could imagine.

At Unfold, we offer luxury candles with the highest quality, non-toxic ingredients in the industry. We spend extensive time testing and creating small batch, exclusive collections, seasonally. While your candle label may list only a handful of notes, our blends tend to have 20+ notes, creating a complex scent profile. We use clean burning coconut soy wax and either a crackling wooden wick to emulate a cozy fireplace, or a simple organic cotton wick.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up a country girl, splitting my childhood between southeastern Kentucky and Tennessee, where life was lived more outside than in. I was barefoot so often, I’d sometimes forget to grab my shoes for school. My days were filled with simple joys like playing in my papaw’s garden, walking to my Nanas house to swim, helping my mom pick veggies for “supper,” and tagging along with my big brother—whether it was riding the 4-wheeler, playing in the woods, catching tadpoles, or burying wrestling figurines in the garden.
Some of my favorite memories are of my dad cooking breakfast and me rounding up the family to eat, or taking care of the litters of Dalmatian puppies we raised. I remember my Mom putting them in a big. Asked with red bows around their neck, so we could try to sell them at the Christmas parade. You could usually find me with pink foam curlers in my hair, a Barbie in one hand, and something to draw with in the other. I’ve always loved making things for my family and finding ways to care for others.
