Check Out Macy Alexander’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Macy Alexander

Hi Macy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA (geaux tigers!). From the ages of 2-23 years old, I was a competitive dancer which began my love of human movement. I received my undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University where I studied kinesiology. While attending LSU, I was a member of the Tiger Girls Dance Team and began teaching group fitness/personal training. I especially loved teaching Pilates classes on the reformer. After graduation, I packed my bags and moved to Austin, TX to pursue my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. My first job after graduate school was at a major hospital system in New Orleans, LA. Then, my journey took me to Charleston, SC where I treated patients within a private practice. Finally, my sweet fiancé brought me here to Knoxville, TN along with our golden doodle named Louis. I’m excited to say I am now working with MovementX physical therapy to provide the highest quality of care, one-on-one treatments, and mobile physical therapy to the people of Knoxville and surrounding areas. Through my various jobs, I’ve gained experience and certifications in pelvic floor, pregnancy, postpartum, orthopedic conditions, vertigo/headaches, sports injuries, fall prevention, surgical recovery, and neurological conditions.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It never is! But, that’s what makes life fun and helps us grow! Some struggles I’ve had are similar to many others that work in healthcare. I’ve had jobs where I was only allowed 15-20 minutes per patient and then had to pass my patient to a tech. I’ve been in settings where we were required to utilize certain treatment methods, even when we may not have agreed or thought this was the best care for the patient. Unfortunately, as a physical therapist, you aren’t always able to give patients the quality you believe is best whether due to time constraints or rules set by the clinic you work in. I’m very proud to say I do not have these issues working with MovementX. I’m able to provide the quality time and personalized treatment that is best and evidence-based to every single patient.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Utilizing a combination of physical therapy techniques I am focused on reducing pain, gaining mobility, and supporting my patients’ return to the things they love. Treatment may include a combination of the following techniques: dry needling, taping, cupping, assisted stretching, soft tissue massage, joint mobilization, myofascial release, movement analysis, ergonomics training, and exercise prescription. With a specialization in pregnancy/postpartum rehabilitation and pelvic floor dysfunction, I am passionate about helping women feel confident and pain-free throughout motherhood and onward.

As a licensed physical therapist in Tennessee, Louisiana, and South Carolina, I provide Telehealth in all three states as well as in-person visits in Knoxville, TN. A mobile practice allows me to provide quality 1 on 1 care to those who are unable to commute to the clinic, are more comfortable in their home, or those with less flexible schedules. Treatment is convenient and tailored to your individual needs whether in home, your office, or your personal gym. By calling (865) 315-7494, you can get directly in touch with me to start planning your movement goals and optimize your health today!

I am most proud of the quality of care I’m able to provide to every patient.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think the most important things when finding a mentor is finding someone with far more experience than you, someone is succeeding in what you see yourself doing down the road, and someone who shares your values.

For networking, I believe Knoxville is such a welcoming community and you just have to put yourself out there to meet and learn about others. One of my favorite things is to grab coffee with individuals in a similar space to learn about their business and see how we can build a well rounded team. Patient care typically takes a village and I love having resources in my back pocket for my patients. There are networking groups such as TNT that are very supportive and want to see you succeed!
