Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lee
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child, I loved played with Barbies, cutting their hair albeit crooked and hand-stitching little skirts. Going into college, I dreamed of becoming an architect but my old-fashioned father discouraged it, saying it was too difficult for a girl. Instead, I got a degree in management and settled into a 9 to 5 job working at a bank. After getting married and having my first child, I knew I wanted to be a full-time stay-at-home mom. Then came my daughter. Needless to say, going from two-income household to one required lot of adjustments and financial sacrifices with two children. I’d see a wreath in a store, imagine it on my front door, and leave the store empty handed to stick within my budget for necessities only. When I could afford supplies, I eagerly tested out my attention to detail and color harmonization in curating a wreath of my own. I didn’t want mass-produced box-store wreaths, but high quality unique elegant wreaths for my home. Now a couple decades later, I curate custom wreaths and ship them to clients across the country. I’m also passionate about supporting women in financial hardship, as I once was. I’ve started a small wreath ministry, which I hope to expand as my business grows.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle has been belief—both from others and within myself. When I first started selling, I saw doubt, not only from friends but also in my own heart. Some friends didn’t support me, while others stepped up to help. The doubters fueled my inner challenge, but those who believed in me gave me strength when I needed it most. I’m also learning to trust in myself, knowing that even though it’s a small beginning, I can do this.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I design and handcraft wreaths and small home accessories, specializing in custom, bespoke creations. With my retail background, I easily understand my clients’ style preferences—whether farmhouse, boho, modern rustic, or Scandinavian. I ensure each wreath is built to last beyond a season, using handpicked flowers, strong Gorilla glue, and UV spray to maintain vibrant colors.
What are your plans for the future?
As a one-woman operation, I manage everything—from design and shopping to bookkeeping, photography, and social media. It’s like preparing a gourmet meal, all on my own, including the cleanup. I hope to grow, bringing in help so I can focus solely on curating wreaths. I also aim to expand the wreath ministry, spreading more joy to women and families facing financial and emotional hardships. When you’re buying a wreath from Laura Designs Wreaths, you’re helping to put a wreath on a door of a struggling family.
