Daily Inspiration: Meet Sydney Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Johnson

Hi Sydney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My original plan had been to go to law school in Knoxville. My parents went through a rough divorce in my early childhood. Our children’s attorney had a huge impact on me from that young age and I fell in love with the courts system and wanted to work as a family attorney. I majored in law and politics at Freed-Hardeman University because of that early influence. I had always been super creative. In high school I worked as a painting instructor for children’s and adult birthday parties. I even have been contracted to create custom paintings on canvas and in people’s homes. My husband had gotten a job in Morristown and we were prepared to move and for me to start law school right after graduation. All I needed to do was hit the submit button for my applications. During my senior year of college at Freed-Hardeman University I modeled for and watched my husband work through the last courses for his photography major. I feel in love with the science and art of photography. On a leap of faith we started our business (then Johnson Creative Designs) now known as SJ Johnson Photography. I’m amazed at how much it has grown and developed in the year and a half we’ve been doing this.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Marketing has been one of the largest struggles. I’m not from East, TN and have struggled to make connections with others. Booking weddings as a wedding photographer comes from word of mouth and references. The more time that passes helps us to get our name out there but it is still something to work hard at.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
SJ Johnson Photography and Videography is a true to color wedding and videography company. While trends come and go I strive for the art that I make for my clients to always remain relevant and classy. I want my brides and couples to always love their wedding images. The memories may fade but the pictures last for a lifetime.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t think I believe in luck. For us it’s been a lot of hard work, patience, and prayer. It’s trying again and again when you just want to throw in the towel. Thinking of new ideas and having top tier organization and customer service.
