Daily Inspiration: Meet Mack Lewis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mack Lewis.

Mack Lewis

Hi Mack, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Our journey began in 2022 when we purchased our first travel trailer for a part-time living while my husband worked over the road. We quickly realized what was intended to be a temporary situation as I completed college, which was a lifestyle we wanted to pursue. A few short months later, we listed our house for sale. Before we knew it, we were no longer homeowners. We invested in a more practical camper for full-time RV life from this sale. Now, just one year later, I have no regrets. Selling our home and investing in a literal “mobile home” has enabled us to live a more free life. While we stay settled occasionally for our careers, we have traveled to 9 states and lived in 5 within this year. The people we have befriended, the experiences we have endured, and the ever-lasting memories we have made have been all worth it. Ditching our traditional “American Dream” life and chasing a more unique, adventurous, and spontaneous life exposed us to both challenges and beautiful moments we would have never been able to experience had we not made the best decision to flip our lives upside down. Though my traveling lifestyle with a family of my own began in 2022, I traveled often as a child with my parents in their camper. We toured the east, south, and west coasts throughout my childhood. The memories I made and the beautiful experiences I had inspired me, and I wanted to invite my family to enjoy the pleasure of traveling. I am avid about self-discovery journies, expanding my comfort zone, taking a long way out, learning new potentials, ditching generational traditions and creating my own, finding peace and appreciation in the small things, hearing other’s stories, and finding comfort in uncomfortable places.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has only sometimes been a smooth road. Living in a non-traditional home poses some non-traditional challenges and obstacles. We are entirely self-sustainable, which can be both good and bad. We are often our mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, and electricians, meaning we have had to learn a lot about things we had no idea about before. From blowouts on the side of the road amid a several-hour travel day to our AC units not working, we have become quite the handywoman and man. Goodbyes are the most challenging part of this life. We have become quite accustomed to them now, but our hearts silently break with everyone. Between leaving our families in East Tennessee and bidding farewell to neighbors who have turned into family, sadness never fails to knock on our door each time. However, I am always joyed with the opportunity to become close to new people and expand our never-ending travel family.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
While I have a separate professional career, my blog is my favorite hobby. I have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to document this time of my life when I traveled, the places I’ve explored, and the tricks I’ve learned. My blog is a mixture of our travel life, the nature we explore, snippets of my family, and even new recipes I have tried. This lifestyle of ours is not permanent, so I am soaking up every moment of it while it lasts, as moments come and go too quickly, and it is important to take mental notes of your favorite parts to reminisce on later. I want to inspire others to take the less-chosen route and abandon their routine. Change is essential for growth, and humans are well-known for their incredible adaptation skills.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe having the desire to change my life and try something “new” with my family was a huge motivating factor. My husband and I are both in our early twenties. Before we officially settled down (by this, I mean buying another house), I wanted to explore new places and learn about who I wanted to be and where I wanted to live. This journey has been one of self-discovery. I have learned more about myself by taking this giant leap outside of my comfort zone (my hometown) that I never would have learned had I not left. I strive to be as grounded and self-aware as possible, and this journey greatly enhances those aspects of myself.
