Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Mitschelen.
Hi Jenny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Fitness has been a big part of my lifestyle for decades. Over the years, it has become more than just a healthy habit. I became genuinely interested in health and wellness. My growing passion for and practice of various movement modalities and holistic health naturally nudged me toward a career change in 2019.
I had recently moved to a new city and had the desire to connect with other women. I thought fitness classes would be a fun way to make friends. The classes I went to were not only unfriendly, the workouts weren’t very effective. The class schedules were not consistent. I never found a magical group fitness experience that I knew was out there.
I studied harder and got some fitness certifications, hired coaches to help me develop professionally, and spent about five years developing my own program. In 2022, my husband and I were charmed by historic downtown Lenoir City. We decided this was the right place for us to call home and for me to launch my business. There were few fitness options and none that were exclusively for women. I launched the Rose Bomb Fitness Suite on August 1, 2022.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I love the growing community of women at RBFS. They are always up for any fitness challenge and uplift each other daily. Watching genuine friendships form as women of all ages build strength and confidence is rewarding.
The challenge unique to the fitness industry is getting people to feel confident and motivated enough to try a class. Being relatively new and opening a niche business has been a drawback to packing every class.
We’ve been impressed with Rose Bomb Fitness Suite, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart?
Rose Bomb Fitness Suite is a private fitness studio and the home of the Rose Bomb group fitness program for women. The program is carefully planned to help minimize a lot of the obstacles and distractions that keep women from achieving the results they desire. The schedule and class set up never change, prioritizing consistency and reliability.
The program is a musically driven fusion of cardio dance and various fitness modalities. Participants build strength stamina, and balance with a full-body workout in every class. The Rose Bomb program is simple. Less is definitely more when it comes to our class lineup. This isn’t a packed schedule of random classes. It is a precision program with only two classes, Rose Bomb Signature and Rose Bomb Sculpt. Signature is more cardio-focused, and Sculpt incorporates more weight and balance training. Signature and Sculpt are each excellent standalone practices, however the schedule is set up to make it easy for women to alternate the two classes, combining one program and leading to sustainable results.
We change programs every quarter to keep things fresh. Working hard on one program enables women to achieve mastery as they tune into their bodies and develop a strong mind-to-muscle connection, which also boosts brain health. The RBFS playlists are carefully curated and do not at all match what is commonly played in most fitness classes. The women here work so hard and are typically euphorically drenched in sweat halfway through every class. But we have a lot of fun.
I have had women from ages 22 to 74 in my studio at all different fitness levels. I can honestly say that age is not an indicator of ability, and anyone can make positive changes. I do my best to make the program very modifiable to accommodate various fitness levels. We don’t have classes based on fitness level or age. Everyone shares the collective joy of one program, and they are given cues to adjust the difficulty and intensity according to what they feel each day.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The global boutique fitness market is projected to surge to $79 billion by 2029. Even though virtual workouts and tech are trending in the fitness industry, boutique studios are still going strong. Community is needed during a time when people are feeling more isolated.
Boutique studios are so popular because they typically have leveled-up programs, closely knit groups, and a more personal atmosphere. Sadly, many small towns do not have these types of fitness studios. I hope to shift that to the area I live in. I think of Rose Bomb Fitness Suite as a fitness studio with small-town charm and big-city energy.
