Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer Blessing of Makers Ekklesia Dance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Blessing.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened Makers in the fall of 2018 and wondered if it would grow into a real business. It quickly became apparent that there was a desire in the community for quality dance instruction in a loving and age-appropriate culture. We have grown rapidly into a much larger studio and, each year, build out a new space to accommodate our growing customer base. Every step of our growth can truly be credited back to supernatural favor from God. There is no way to explain growing during a worldwide lockdown in our second year of business! We are humbled and thankful to get to steward all the dancers we walk alongside in their dance journey each year.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every year brings a new challenge, whether related to scaling in growth, business logistics, or viruses that change the world. Keeping the mindset that with every problem, there is a solution and taking it one step at a time has been paramount in choosing peace over stress in these moments.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in dance instruction of multiple genres, including ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, contemporary, modern, and hip hop, all in an atmosphere of safety and modest age-appropriate costume choices and music. We are intentionally and unapologetically faith-based in our foundational principles and beliefs, which sets us apart.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
We are part of a network of more than 300 studios called “More than just great dancing,” which is what it sounds like! We are about supporting dancers and their families in more ways than just providing excellent dance training. A more holistic look at a dancer and all the ways dance teaches them to be more confident and succeed in life pursuits. MTJGD has been a key point of support and training as we have grown and has allowed us to learn from others much further in their business experience.
