Community Highlights: Meet Cory Hedgecock of Eagle Racing Engines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Hedgecock.

Cory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born into racing, like it or love it, I was basically destined to love it. My dad raced for many years and accomplished a lot in drag racing. When I turned 7 I started racing jr dragsters and did that up through I was 15. Then I got in a top dragster/super comp and started big money bracket racing. Dad was still racing at the time also so we traveled everywhere together and won some races, I was and still am the youngest to ever win a winter series race. Me and my dad Won races paying between 2000-25000$. We also, as a family which me and my dad, Chad just went in partners with and bought Eagle Racing Engines from my grandad, that started it in 1980.

So we build the engines we run along with building them for people all over the country and some outside the country. Started dirt racing about 12 years ago and fell in love ever since, had super great success, won around 175 features so far in my career and hope to continue to build on that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Racing is far from smooth sailing. You can go from hero to zero all in the same night, I’ve went from leaving 25k to win races and jump the cushion and stuff it in the fence. Heartbreak hotel for sure, but I’ve been on the other end of it and inherit the lead too, so in the end it all works out. My mom and dad has gave me everything I’ve ever wanted or needed in racing to perform at the level we do it at and in no way could ever thank them enough.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Eagle Racing Engines?
I touched on it earlier but it’s what we do, we live and breathe racing and want to see the next guy succeed just as much as myself. We build anything and everything related to Chevy v8 style engines from marine, street, strip, circle track, you name it, we can do it.

What matters most to you? Why?
I’ve always been considered a “silver spoon” and in the past it really aggravated me and I always argued against it. My parents have gave me everything, but I don’t own one cent of it if that makes sense. I work on it and work night and day at the engine shop and the race shop. I just want people to realize the hours we put into both operations to accomplish all that we have in such a short time. We’ve all worked hard and we’ve all earned it.
