Check Out Ashlei Callison’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlei Callison.

Hi Ashlei, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a wife and mom of two who is obsessed with the magic of the Christmas season, the simplicity and beauty of winter, the promise and hope of spring, the carefree spirit of summer, and the colors, scents, and gratitude associated with fall, the silly and spooky sides of Halloween, and the feelings that can only be evoked by the decor of each one of those seasons and holidays.

Having been born into a family of entertainers and married into another, I know how to make an ordinary party or holiday extraordinary. My mother-in-law has a saying that her house must be “party perfect” before guests come over. I’ve taken her philosophy one step further to include “holiday perfect,” where you feel like you’ve been transported into a holiday wonderland.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m in a unique position because there aren’t many people in this field, which is an advantage to some extent but also an obstacle because not only do I have to find customers, but I also have to convince them that this service is worth it. Beyond that, the biggest obstacle is showing them the value of seasonal design and demonstrating that you can use our services without completely throwing out your family traditions.

For example, several of my clients keep a “family” tree to decorate themselves or with their kids, while we create a more “designed” tree that fits with their current decor. Alternatively, we can provide you with all the elements of your ideal Christmas tree and you don’t miss out on any of the family fun.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in seasonal interior design. Currently, about 90% of our clients are booking us for residential and commercial Christmas decor. We also do tablescapes for dinner parties and are brainstorming other ideas to keep us busy the rest of the year.

I am most proud of our work at the Tennessean Hotel. Walking into a boutique hotel and seeing your work is a feeling that can’t be described until you’ve lived it.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
First and foremost, I would like to expand our current Christmas decor business, as I imagine this will always be our bread and butter, so to speak.

Beyond that, I would love to establish a tablescape clientele, whether they’re looking for a themed design for Thanksgiving or just something special for entertaining friends. Finally, I would like to find more design clients for the rest of the year- fall doorsteps, spring and Easter interiors, etc.
