Hidden Gems: Meet Spice Ditti of The Spice Network

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spice Ditti.

Hi Spice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely, my name is Donald Wayne Turner Jr. (Spice Ditti) I was born in West Memphis, Arkansas. I was raised in Chicago, IL, then later moved back to Memphis, TN, when I was 11 years old. I’ve been writing and producing music since I was 12 years old.

I’d stay in the studio much as I could to stay away from trouble. After a few run-ins with local law enforcement. I decided to change my life and take my career more seriously. After doing many years of open mic nights and traveling to different areas in the Mid-South, I finally started to catch a wave.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, I started from the bottom. I had no clue what I was doing at first. I asked questions and learned from who I could whenever I could. Along with my wife going to college for a Master’s in Psychology. I had to make personal sacrifices for my family to balance my life and music. When the pandemic COVID hit and shut everything down.

I used the quarantine to take my time out to figure out and learn the business side of music. I took many online courses and did much research as I could until I finally learned. I worked multiple jobs trying to fund my career and feed my family. I got my CDL drove trucks and around the US recording music in my semi. It took years but I and my wife managed to buy all the studio and film equipment I needed to start our own business.

The Spice Network LLC, I had to learn the business side of the music industry through trial and error. I remember performing in almost empty Venus. If 10-25 people showed up I still performed. It was hard but it molded me into the artist I am today.

We’ve been impressed with The Spice Network LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Spice Network is my company and we specialize in Publishing, Promotion, Writing, Photography, Videography, Graphic, Web Design, Film Production, Recording, Mix and Mastering, and Voice-overs. Just about anything that has to do with the music/film industry.

We are a record label to which I (Spice Ditti) am signed. We are also a clothing brand with our own custom-made designs. What sets us apart from others is we do it all. We’re a one-stop-shop that will work will all budgets. I am willing to teach anyone who is willing to learn the business.

I remember how it was and I’ll help any musician that’s serious about their craft any way I can.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I took many risks to get this far. I’ve spent thousands on jewelry, radio play, videos, recording, and promotion. I felt like it was getting me nowhere. I was going about it all wrong. I had to get behind the music and learn how to create revenue with what I love.

I started to learn how to do things on my own. Buying one piece of equipment at a time, even though I didn’t know how to work the equipment. Through trial and error, I’ve learned it all the risks paid off. We recently just took a big risk by sending our story to multiple news and radio stations around the US.

At the same time, promoting my new single “Successful.”
