Daily Inspiration: Meet Shane Hawkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Hawkins.

Hi Shane, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For me, photography started out as a hobby. My wife and I love traveling and exploring national parks, so photography was naturally a fun way to document our trips by capturing the various landscapes and cityscapes we visited. I originally graduated college with a business degree with concentrations in human resource management and marketing. After a short time on this career path, I realized it wasn’t meant for me. I decided to start over and go back to school for photography and the rest was history. As my photography career progressed, it became clear that weddings and events were my path forward. Today, I’m still photographing weddings and I’ve started doing more corporate photography. I consider myself very fortunate to have had help from many people along the way to help me get to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say any journey is ever a smooth road. In business, much like life, you’re going to have mistakes and failures along the way. Sometimes you just have to pick yourself up and use those lessons to fuel future growth. The best thing you can do is own your mistakes, dust yourself off, and come back stronger and wiser.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in wedding and event photography. I also do a lot of corporate photography now. I would say I’m known for using bright, natural colors that are authentic and true to life. I’m most proud of the fact that I started this career from ground level and got here through hard work and dedication.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would just encourage your readers to not be afraid to take the chance to follow their dreams, even if it doesn’t work out. As the famous quote by Wayne Gretzky goes, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
