Check Out Tiffany Grandstaff’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Grandstaff.

Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started having a passion for sustainability when I was young, my mother was a seamstress and would make and mend many of our clothes; that passion transferred into adulthood and when I saw the turtle video (the one with the straw stuck in that poor turtle’s nose) I knew that I had to do more. I would always bring my own cups or just skip produce bags but when I was living in a different state I found a refillery and I knew that was what I wanted to do. I knew plastic was a problem and I knew that big businesses didn’t have our best interest or health at heart so this was my way of being able to have a little bit of control and giving more people options in how they consume.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I will say that for someone who has no idea what I’m doing, it’s been pretty smooth! My biggest struggles are not being able to test every single product, although I do try to test as many as I can I can’t do every one. We get some bad eggs and customers have less than desired experiences with these sustainable products. Being a mother and starting a business is also just very taxing, you really tow a fine line of being away from them too much or working 24/7 and still giving them the best version of you. Everything this business stands for is to leave a better world for them so I hope they recognize that and can continue this fight we’re fighting!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a zero waste store with a passion for food security and local creators. We’re known most for helping people reduce their plastic waste in the home and providing resources for people to take their carbon footprint down one more notch. Thus far, I’m most proud of the knowledge that I have gained from this experience and the fact that everyone I meet truly wants to know more and do better. What sets us apart is that we’re really trying to create a community of people and businesses that all have a common goal. Shop smarter, smaller, slower, more locally, and more consciously in all aspects of life, not just at the refillery.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a very stereotypical virgo only child. I was rotten (in a good way) and always right. I was raised by a single mother and her best friend took care of me often when she worked, being surrounded by strong women my whole life taught me to stand up for myself and what I thought was right. That we are more powerful than we think and that we really can do what we put our minds to. We always had a lot of animals as well so that helped to instill in me that we will be putting others before ourselves so they can have a better life. We get to choose who we put in our lives so we protect them and care for them.
