Today we’d like to introduce you to Scarlett Morgan
Hi Scarlett, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my photography journey by being in the yearbook committee in high school where I got to take pictures of different clubs, sports, and events at my high school. Getting to be a part of the committee made me realize how much I enjoy capturing those points in time where some might not be able to experience them again but have the memories to look back!
I also would take my friends pictures in which they used them as their graduation announcements and being a starting photographer of course, that made me very proud and eager to continue in that line of work.
I did an internship with Pro Photo Inc. where I learned more of the business side and studio portrait side of photography all while attending Pellissippi State Community College where I graduated in 2019 with my Associates Degree in Media Technology-Photography.
I have since then started my own business, S.Morgan Photography where I have been honored to continue capturing individuals, couples, families, graduates, boudoir, weddings, and more!
I also work closely with another photographer who I went to college and became best friends with and am also working with another best friend to become a content creator to add to my S.Morgan Photography team
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a photography business is definitely not in the easiest line of work but it definitely can be one of the most rewarding and fun! Or at least for me it is!
Trying to build up clientele, continue to grow and build a business while also providing and maintaining a strong and exciting customer service experience is hard work.
Always trying to come up with new session idea’s, putting together different creative projects of my own to boost inspiration, and also posting about said sessions and ideas is something you have to stay on top of but also find a healthy work life balance for yourself other wise you can deal with burnout.
I think with this past year and maybe a few beforehand I would try to over work myself during some personal rough times which effected my work ethic but overall since I have great clients who are patient, understanding, and supportive, I was able to still provide an experience in which they could enjoy and be excited for their photos.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait and wedding photographer around the East Tennessee area’s where I specialize in individuals, couples, and other lifestyle shoots. I am starting to dabble in wedding photography again and it just makes me giddy every second of being able to capture a couples special day!
I am proud of the growth I have seen over the years with both my business and of myself and my growth within photography as a whole but most proud of the clients that trust me and continue to support me, continue to return to book multiple sessions with me, and also refer their friends to me for us to preserve their favorite memories in photos as well.
I feel like all photographers do their best to connect and make that unique relationship with their clients but I feel like I am able to grow friendships and personal connections with my clients to where it feels like we’ve known each other for years. I’ve also been told my abilities to hype up and boost a clients confidence is like no other which I like to think is true! I love being able to make anyone I come in contact with comfortable, confident, and feel the best they can when we work together!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Ask questions! Ask to second shoot or tag along on a session, or just in general chat with another photographer and learn or bounce idea’s off of them!
Overall your photography business is your business to make what you want it to be but it never hurts to learn or take tips from fellow photographers! I always say you can learn something new everyday!
I also love to put together vision boards on Pinterest to find a vibe and inspiration for sessions I’d like to put together and create as my own projects that way I have content to post, can ask clients or followers on my instagram if they would want to model, and also get to create something out of the box which helps avoid the creators blues or burn out.
