Today we’d like to introduce you to Sybil Laine Manahan
Hi Sybil Laine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career by moving from Kingsport, Tennessee to Cincinnati, OH to attend the Aveda Fredrics Institute of Cosmetology and Aesthetics. Upon graduation in 2001, I was relocated to Atlanta Ga to train at Van Michael Salons as a Stylist. After completing their training program, I chose to move back home to the tricities. I built my clientele behind the chair in commission based salons and began my independent journey in 2007 after the birth of my daughter. 4 years later I had a burning desire to teach and empower new artists to our industry and became a licensed educator. Throughout the years I loved both working behind the chair and teaching. In 2023 I became a color educator for Goldwell and Kao Salon Division while building my salon brand Haute Glam Studio. In 2025, we expanded from a 300 square foot training studio to a now 1100 square feet training salon focused on empowering stylists to grow the career of their wildest dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Never a smooth road. Navigating learning labor laws and tax requirements, all while educating new artists and growing a team, you learn real quick what works and what really doesn’t. Making waves in our local community that some don’t agree with. You develop tough skin really quick.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Behind the chair, I am a color and dimensional blonding specialist and extension artist certified in all methods. Knowledge is power. Beyond the chair, I am a Local Artist (educator) for Goldwell and Kao Salon Division. I am also a Regional Educator for Vish Color Management Systems. I am most proud of building a business and salon team built on the foundations of creativity and integrity. I empower my team to grow their business, even though in some situations, that means not within the four walls of my salon. I will always choose to cheer on other business owners and stylists – there is enough success for each of us to have.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I learned very early to CHOOSE YOU at the end of the day. I never knew I wanted to own my own salon or to work closely in a managerial role with stylists until I did. Taking the step to open and create the environment we have created at Haute Glam Studio isn’t always what others view as a great step or even what they would have chosen, but we did it. We lost some supporters along the way but it opened so many doors to other opportunities that it was worth the risk.
