Life & Work with Brenna Cook of Knoxville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Cook

Hi Brenna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up I was surrounded by my mother and family members who did an array of interior design. Around the age of 8 I worked in the Christmas store my mom managed, where I would create holiday arrangements to sell. I found throughout life I was constantly wanting to plan and decorate any event I was able to. This led to eventually helping plan and flower for my close friend’s wedding in 2012. After that, other friends started to reach out and I continued to do a few events here and there over the next few years. In 2016, I finally got my break and something that I thought would never be more than a hobby finally become a full fledged business. I always knew I wanted to be in the art world, but no medium had ever stuck. Once I began using flowers to express myself I knew I’d found what I was supposed to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall I have been very lucky with the growth of my business. One of the hardest challenges was choosing to finally go from a gig on the side to this being my full time job. It took a few weddings and some time to believe that this could be a career that I could sustain. I found that when I finally made the call to put all my focus into my business is when it truly started to grow. The only thing I would change is taking the leap sooner.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a floral artist that specializes in weddings and events. I am most proud that I can call myself a working artist. My style is what sets me apart. In my designs are organic elements sometimes pulled right from the nature around me. One of my strongest traits is the ability to create modern designs with a timeless feel to them.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My background is in digital media with a focus in graphic design. The Adobe Suite is a tool I’ve been using since college to convey how a design will look in the space provided at a venue. In this way I can always give my client a true sense of how their special day will look.
