Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Gaulke
Brett , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
RVEE, Inc., a rapidly growing RV repair shop in Knoxville, has a unique origin story. Owner Brett wasn’t always elbow-deep in repairs and roof replacements. Just a few years ago, he was soaring through the skies as a drone pilot, pioneering the use of drone technology for cell tower inspections in the telecom industry.
“It was lucrative, but I was on the road 300 days a year,” Brett explains. “With two young boys and my wife, Chanel, at home, it just wasn’t sustainable.”
Seeking a better work-life balance, the family made a bold decision: sell everything, buy an RV, and hit the road. This new adventure, however, highlighted a major pain point in the RV world – the scarcity of reliable repair services.
“Around a campfire one night, I asked Chanel how she’d feel about me getting my RV certification,” Brett recalls. “She was on board immediately!”
The family headed to Texas for Brett to train at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing setbacks, including a bout with COVID himself, he persevered and earned his certification. Returning to Tennessee, they established RVEE, Inc. in Sevierville.
In just three years, the business has blossomed, exceeding expectations and generating nearly a million dollars in revenue. With a focus on quality and customer satisfaction, RVEE, Inc. boasts near-perfect reviews across the board.
“We’ve recently expanded into a larger shop in Halls,” says Brett. “This allows us to tackle major repairs like roof replacements and full restorations, further meeting the needs of our customers.”
RVEE, Inc.’s story is a testament to adaptability, entrepreneurial spirit, and the pursuit of a fulfilling life. From drones to drivetrains, Brett has proven that with passion and determination, any challenge can be overcome.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The RV industry is experiencing a boom, but it’s not without its challenges. While more and more people are embracing the RV lifestyle, businesses serving this growing community are facing unique hurdles.
“It’s definitely not a smooth road,” says Brett, CEO at RVEE. “We cater to a diverse clientele, from vacationers needing quick repairs to full-timers who rely on their RVs as permanent homes. Balancing these needs can be challenging.”
The rise in full-time RV living, driven by soaring housing costs, adds another layer of complexity. These customers often require more extensive repairs and maintenance, putting a strain on resources.
However, the biggest obstacle, according to industry insiders, is the shortage of skilled technicians. “We have a fantastic team, but finding qualified techs is limiting our growth,” Brett explains.
This sentiment is echoed throughout the industry. As the demand for RV services continues to climb, attracting and retaining skilled labor is crucial for sustained success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
“It’s hard to sum up my career path, because I’ve worn a lot of hats! But one thing has remained constant: I’m a serial entrepreneur, always seeking new opportunities to build something myself. The RV business was the next logical step, and the growth has been incredible. Everything I’ve done in the past has led to this moment, and it’s especially rewarding to share this success with my family.”
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
“My biggest strength? I never give up. It’s a ‘no quit’ attitude I learned from my father. He always said, ‘Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and you’ll reach the finish line.’ The moment you stop is the moment it all ends. That philosophy has guided me throughout my career.”
