Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Brock
Hi Chloe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Several years ago, we were a group of four friends who became a tight knit group while training dogs together under a big box company. While we weren’t business owners at the time, we realized that big companies tend to prioritize profit over relationships, client satisfaction, realistic work load and “doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.” The four of us had visions of how to do things better for each dog and each client while including each team member as a valuable part of our team. We gathered together one evening under a starry sky on UT Campus and talked about our individual visions of “how to be better”, which led to our 4-person dream of starting a company that would appeal to the greater good of our community. So, the four of us held hands, and jumped off a cliff together… sink or swim, we were doing it and doing it together.
First off, we wanted to illustrate a code of ethical conduct by carving out our mission statement and core company values, and this truly sets us apart from other dog training companies especially in an unregulated, over-saturated field that requires no formal education or system of accountability.
Our company values are deeply rooted in ensuring that every dog we touch is able to tap into their full potential toward living their very best life and that we thoroughly educate each owner by providing the tools and knowledge to ensure they are living their best lives with their dogs. We pride ourselves in giving back to our community through volunteer work, fostering, sponsoring and hosting charitable events. The relationships that we build with our clients, dogs and our community are life-long, just as our relationships with each other are life-long. We have grown our team of 4 into an amazing team of 7 since our beginnings in 2022. We have a 100% retention rate because each trainer is looked at as a valuable part of our team, and not looked at as a “work horse” or “cash cow.” Our team of the Magnificent Seven is very tight knit, so when you get one of us, you get all of us. And as a team, we continuously strive to exceed expectations with every class, every adventure camper, every rescue event and every community event because our #1 goal forever and always is to “do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Luckily, we had already built relationships with so many of the right people who helped guide us along the way in every aspect of business building. We started with our friends at Graphic Creations who helped us build our brand. Our attorneys at Lewis-Thomason helped guide us through the process of business. And personal relationships with accounting, insurance and real estate helped ensure we were on track with finances, coverage and a place to call home. We have truly been blessed with a support team of other professionals in the business world. Considering we are dog trainers with no formal business management experience, I’d say we are doing pretty good as we look at closing out year #2.
As you know, we’re big fans of North Star K9 Training. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in all types of obedience, puppy, sport, scent, therapy dog and service dog training. Our 7 trainers specialize in different types of training from balanced training to positive reinforcement only training. We utilize different tools for different owner expectations, and we work to match owner personalities and expectations with the best trainer suited for the owner and dog.
We are very proud to have won Cityview Magazines Best of the Best Gold in Dog Trainining in 2023 in just our first 9 months of being an official business. Cityview told us that we won be a “landslide.”
How do you think about happiness?
Transformations!!
Watching the scared dog grow in confidence, watching the reactive dog learn how to handle big feelings, watching the young dog learn to jump into the car for the first time, watching the old dog learn new tricks, watching the goofy dog learn to do a job and do it well, watching the hyperactive dog learn impulse control, etc. These are just a handful of generic examples. We watch amazing transformations every day and they are just as unique as that particular dog in front of us.
