Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Clough
Hi Angie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a stay at home mom who homeschools two boys (now high school aged). I have always loved art and science. In college, I would draw in my free time, but didn’t pick up a pencil or brush until my children were probably in middle school. I primarily enjoy watercolor. I do a lot of custom portraits of homes, businesses, families and pets. Recently, I have been doing a chinoiserie and floral study. Along with that, I am learning digital artistry to bring another dynamic to my pieces.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a micro business has its challenges. Getting the word out and finding shops interested in working with you can be difficult. It’s been a great blessing to have a supportive local business community here in Cookeville. Many local shops have been so gracious to carry my items or allow me as a vendor, in addition to having me create designs for their products and for personal use.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I took a couple of art classes in college, but am predominantly a self taught artist. I love focusing on heirloom and local pieces. My love is watercolor and pencils sketches, but I also do a lot with acrylic and mixed media. I have done watercolor portraits of several local businesses, which I then turned into stickers. When I travel I always search out local artisans. I love that travelers can do the same and pick up my locally painted art and stickers as traveling treasures.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
As much as I love art, I also love science! Leonardo Davinci is one of my inspirations. I have even designed and teach classes at a local learning center integrating art and science. I incorporated a science lesson into each art project we do. I think it’s a beautiful thing to see the ways science and art are so intertwined. This past year, we studied the days of creation. We started by inspecting light and its various types. We also introduced the concept of light speed. The children made oil pastel drawing of a lot candle and made piñata luminaries as projects. Who is more scientific and creative than our Creator? Next year, we will be scientifically and artistically studying the seasons. Sharing my love of art, science and faith fulfills me in so many ways and I’m very thankful for the opportunities given to me to do so.
