Meet Jarrod Ray of Seymour

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrod Ray.

Jarrod Ray

Hi Jarrod, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I grew up in Plant City, FL. At a young age, I started drawing and painting. I knew I wanted to be an artist as a career, but I didn’t see how that looked. When I turned 18, I got my first tattoo. I became best friends with my artist, Colt Baker, at Las Vegas Tattoo Co. in FL. After hanging around for several years there, I knew I wanted to be a tattoo artist, and I went for it. Colt was a mentor of mine and showed me the ropes. I worked in several shops in Florida until I was 26 years old, then started traveling to the US, spotting and working at many shops. That’s when I met my wife, and we moved back here to Tennessee from Colorado. We have 4 kids. A 12-year-old boy named Ari, a 9-year-old girl named Isla, a 2-and-a-half-year-old boy named Caleb, and Silas, a 3-month-old boy. I am a man of faith and wanted to open a faith-based tattoo shop where we could minister to anyone and everyone—spreading the love of Jesus through the gifts and skills God has given us. So, the shop in Seymour, Tennessee, was born. It’s called 3 sevens tattoo. 3 stands for Father, Son, and the holy spirit, and seven is referenced in the bible over 735 times. God gave me the name of the shop, and it was terrific. We have 4 artists: Jack, Ben, Shawnessey, and myself, Jarrod. We also have an excellent front desk secretary, Erin. We have a great team and an awesome vibe at the shop. It definitely wouldn’t be what it is without them.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Living a life dedicated to Christ, I believe in the perfect timing of His plans. There were several instances when I was eager to open the shop, but the circumstances didn’t align. When the time was right, God paved the way for me, and everything fell into place. Investing all my savings into this business was a leap of faith, but I trusted that God would bring it all together for His glory. This journey of faith and trust in God’s plan has been the cornerstone of my life and career, inspiring me to create a faith-based tattoo shop.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
At 3 Sevens Tattoo, we pride ourselves on being a versatile tattoo shop. Each artist has unique styles, ranging from realism, color, traditional, hatchwork, and watercolor to black and grey. I am most proud of winning 1st place at a tattoo convention in Utah with my black and grey portrait style of tattooing. We aim to create a homely, welcoming, judgment-free environment for our clients. We take the time to understand our client’s preferences and guide them in making the best decisions for their body art. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that our clients leave with a tattoo they are happy with that will last a lifetime, reflecting our dedication to their satisfaction.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
