Hi Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Aura photography is an accidental career and adventure for me. I decided to take a leap of faith to become an aura photographer in May of 2021 after a layoff following the bankruptcy of my then-employer, Earth Fare, the previous year. I had worked at Earth Fare for nearly ten years in various roles, beginning with administrative/accounting positions and eventually moving into the Wellness department, where I started making connections with our customers who seemed to be a part of the underground holistic and spiritual movement in the Knoxville area, which open the door to my curiosity into metaphysical ideas. I had no plans of changing careers at that time, and being that it was early in the pandemic a time of anxiety about an unknown future–I took what I thought was the safe road economically. I worked other retail jobs and a short-term contract with the US Census Bureau. During this time, my husband and I began having conversations that would re-characterize and eventually completely redefine the concepts of ‘safe’ and ‘risk’ for us. What was the point of trying to remain safe economically while risking my health, being continually exposed to the public, and working low-reward (financially and spiritually) jobs? Why not reconfigure my approach to risk, taking a path of greater economic risk and a safer road regarding health exposure? During this period of uncertianity throughout humanity, why not feed my spirit and learn new skills that will someday result in rewards(economic and spiritual) far more significant than anything my previous retail wage-earning life could provide? The aura photography ‘seed’ had been planted several years prior when I attended my first metaphysical fair. While there, I encountered my first aura photographer and observed how excited everyone was to have their aura captured. I could not read my aura that day because the waiting list exceeded the time remaining. Still, the mystery of not knowing my aura colors contributed to my curiosity to learn as much as possible, leading to my eventual desire to become an aura photographer.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle is common for most small business owners: reaching my ideal customer and knowing where to spend my time and resources to have that investment returned. I am trying to balance keeping my prices low and accessible but also sustainable for myself. The events that I attend and the people that I have met along this journey feed my soul, but finding a way that, in return, feeds my family has been a delicate balance.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Aura photography works with specialized equipment to capture your electromagnetic energy and translate it into colors. Dissecting the colors and their placement gives insight into how other people may feel your presence and how you relate to life, your personality, your thought patterns, and your emotions. In short words, it is a personality test without having to answer quiz questions. From my own experience, it can be simultaneously surprising and validating to have access to this information. Every living has an aura, which leads me to the fact that I can also capture your four-legged pet auras. Another popular option is combined aura photo sessions. This session is only available for humans but is not just for romantic partners. I most commonly capture friends and mother-daughter duos. Have you ever felt energized or also utterly drained by another person? Well, that is because our energy fields unconsciously interact, and having your combined aura read can give you insight into that energetic interaction. For instance, my aura is usually indigo, light blue, and occasionally with touches of green or violet, and my husband’s is predominately blue and sometimes yellow. Lately, our combined aura has been violet and red.
My final offer is chakra photos. This option measures the health of your seven main energy centers, and each of these chakra centers represents different aspects of your life. These chakra points are located along the column of your spine. They go from the spine’s base to the head’s crown; together, they create an upward and downward energy current. Therefore, the energy can no longer flow freely if one of your chakras is blocked. The lower the chakra is located in our body, the more physical it is; the higher it is situated in our body, the more spiritual it is considered.
I struggle to compare myself to other aura photographers because we all add our personal touch to the translation of the photo and each session. After printing your photo, I dissect and interpret each color for you during each aura photo session. I mostly talk about the positive things that I observe because I want you to leave feeling your best. We are all human and face enough challenges and criticism as it is. What were you like growing up?
I have always been a child of nature and told that I was an old soul for as long as I can remember. All of my favorite memories as a child and even as an adult have taken place in nature. My family loved to hike and camp, and since my dad was in the military, we have lived and traveled to many places. I always loved learning, but learning in a school environment with severe dyslexia was very challenging. Growing up, I always felt like it held me back because I struggled academically, but it has allowed my creative side to flourish in many ways. I do not have to worry about being dyslexic to connect with nature or, for that matter, to feel and translate an individual’s aura, colors, and energy.
