Daily Inspiration: Meet Sheila Mraz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Mraz.

Sheila Mraz

Hi Sheila, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My dad was a professional photographer, so I got to experience the magic of film being developed at a young age. Through my dad’s eyes, I learned how incredible photography can be. We had an extra large cork bulletin board in the main hallway of our home that was filled with portraits. Both friends and family would gaze at this visual display every time they entered our house to see who was on the board and hear the stories that accompanied each. When my dad passed away in 2009, and all of his gear landed in my lap, I felt a moral obligation to keep his mission statement, “to show the glory of God,” alive. I started photographing everything in front of me and, through time, found that my passion is people and their love stories. Since then, I have photographed hundreds of weddings, plus equal amounts of family, maternity, newborn, seniors, and branding photoshoots. I do my best to continue my dad’s mission statement by shining God’s love on my clients through gorgeous images.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business from scratch is no small feat. The upfront costs are unreal, and the learning curve is straight uphill. It took many trial-and-error moments in every direction, with more errors than I’d like to admit. Through years of perseverance, I slowly built my business on personal connections. If I am sincere, challenges arise daily as a solopreneur. No business or person is immune to them, but how you handle them makes the difference. I take each one and do my best to steer them with grace.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At this point in my career, I mainly focus on weddings in the WNC area. I have added business and life coaching to my services since I have so much to share on how to build a sustainable business in a saturated market.
