Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Shock.
Hi Doug, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was a kid, after my parent’s Divorce, some of my best friends were my older brother and sister’s records. I gave an arena concert nearly every Friday Night in my bedroom. Their stack of records and Rock104WIMZ (later 103.5fm) was the soundtrack. I was a skinny geek with red hair, a lazy eye, and freckles looking for love, attention, and acceptance. Many times my Mother would come into my bedroom screaming after I’d landed a full David Lee Roth jump split from my bed! She’d say, “It sounds like the whole house is gonna come down!” If she ever used the word “damn,” I was dead. Like so many in that time, the posters of my heroes wallpapered my room. I found it all and more in Rock n Roll. Music has opened many doors and led to many more opportunities than I can count. SAGE – lead singer 1985 – Several current releases and notable opening live performances with Bon Jovi, Bad Company, Peter Frampton, Jackyl, Steppen Wolf, and more. Doug Shock Band – Song Writer, Lead Singer, part-time Rhythm Guitar 1999-present releases Floodwater and Est.1969. Notable opening live performances with Bret Michaels, REO Speedwagon, The Doobie Brothers, and 38 Special.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but the journey has been smooth so far.
I’m very proud of the new release because it was hard. Travis Wyrick is an incredible producer, and he would not allow me to half-ass this effort. I’ve transformed in so many ways the entire year, both physically and mentally. I had to get in shape to sing this record and give the music all it deserves. My obstacles and challenges in the making Est.1969 were self-inflicted. As a singer, I had to push through and move beyond old bad habits. Preparing, preparing, and then finding a balance to be open and free to let go and create on the fly in the studio was a huge growth during the recording sessions. I learned from Travis that I could only come to the studio with a few lyrics or ideas. We’re digital; there’s an unlimited amount of tries available. How will you know it sucks if you don’t go for it all the way? Making the music video for SHE DEVIL https://youtu.be/4pHJsxhyrMI has been an incredible experience! My wonderful friends, The Kings, jumped in with all six feet and 100% excellence on their minds. Sean immediately understood my vision and quickly wrote a plot, storyline, and script. I wanted hot. I got that and a whole lot more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Floodwater Est.1969
How do you define success?
