Today we’d like to introduce you to Anik Muhury.
Hi Anik, can you introduce yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I turned myself in for the Ph.D. program at the University of Tennessee in the spring of 2022. A leadership election campaign for the Bangladesh Student Association (BSA) was held shortly after I arrived at UT. I got nominations for several executive posts and was later elected president of the current administrative body. From nomination to elected executive member, I must admire the mindset and openness BSA general member holds to give a chance to the new member.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
BSA is currently the third biggest international institution in terms of membership, and our members live sparsely as UT does not offer graduate-level housing. Thus, it is always complex since the interaction is the most significant factor of an organization like ours.
Please tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others.
By planning various events, BSA aims to promote and highlight Bangladesh’s rich and diversified culture, history, and heritage. As a UT-registered organization, we can engage in the Knox Asian Festival and spread awareness of our culture to the local community. We put together several unorthodox programs for our community and members to give them the sense that we can be a big BSA family, setting us apart. Our current leadership team is made up of intelligent, driven people. I’m proud of the fact that they all share the same vision.
What do you think about luck?
My job doesn’t require any luck. Still, I am privileged to work with my current team members (Anika Tabassum Sarkar, Emazuddin Alif, Sadia Binte Sohid, and Tasneem Ehsan) and advisor (Dr. Ahmedullah Aziz), as well as our general BSA members. My wife, Adharaa Neelim Dewanjee, deserves special thanks for her unwavering support.
