

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Groth.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I am a Knoxville native and graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Service Management degree concentration in Hotel & Tourism Management. I started my career in hotels, starting at the bottom and working my way up to General Manager with Marriott. After working in hotels for almost 12 years, I felt there was something more for me to achieve. I have a passion and love for service excellence. I get satisfaction out of helping people. Working in real estate is something that I have always wanted to do. When I was in college, I wanted to be a Realtor. My dad said he didn’t pay all this money for me to attend UT to become a Realtor. In 2015, I took a leap of faith. I turned in a five-week notice to my well-paying, stable job as a GM with Marriott. Before getting into real estate, I decided I would travel the world for a year. 28 countries later (39 traveled overall to date), I got into Real Estate. Going into my sixth year in real estate, I love what I do. I can help clients achieve their goals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never smooth. Having been in Real Estate for over six years, I have seen a lot of ups and a lot of downs. The biggest road bump along my way was the sudden death of my father in 2010. My dad was the person I wanted to be growing up. When he passed away to suicide in 2010, it left a void and uneasiness in my life. Time does heal, but I use that sadness to feed my passion. My failures have become the greatest learning opportunities for my team and me.

What matters to me most is serving others. I believe it’s not what you get in this world that matters but what you give. There is no greater high for me than knowing I provided top-notch service and made a difference in someone’s life. Whether it is a real estate transaction or one of the many charities and organizations I volunteer for, it gives me my high.
