Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsabe Fregoso.
Hi Betsabe, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
During my senior year of High School, I was working hard to get a scholarship to play Tennis at UCLA.
Unfortunately, I got hurt during one of my games and ended up having knee surgery and had to find a different extracurricular activity to finish the school year. A few friends were taking a video production class and I thought it would be fun to join plus I thought it would help my acting portfolio. The worst year of my life turned into the best year of my life. I fell in love with video and editing and decided to go to college and study more.
Living in CA was stressful and very competitive, after two years of college, my sister asked me to go to Asheville and help her open a coffee shop. My intention was to go for a few months and come back to CA to continue school. Being in Asheville was calm and refreshing, my sister’s coffee shop was doing great and she started baking wedding cakes and got asked if she knew anyone that did wedding videos. She told her clients that I was going to school for that and even though I have never done a wedding video before.
Couples trusted me and gave me the opportunity to show and document such a special day in your lives. My first wedding was very emotional, being behind the lens and capturing very special moments really opened my eyes to what I could do and wanted to continue to do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, having a business requires you to wear many hats.
I had to work a full-time job as I was starting the business which was stressful and time-consuming, all the legal paperwork and just learning, website design, advertising, equipment, trusting the right people, taxes, and dealing with rejection and knowing your worth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I run a video production company, I specialize in wedding videos and branching out into music videos and short films.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Watching films help me get creative and inspired.
